Understanding the Notifications tab settings   21 April 2014, 15:48

Good day to everyone.
I am trying to set up notifications. The top half of the popup window I understand.
Under Actions in the lower half of the window I am stuck.
Reading from left to right,
Visual and sound alert I ticked. then there an long empty box, then a box with 3 dots, then TEST.
The next line down
Run I do not know what it does, and same as above

The last 2 lines again I understand.

I anyone can help, I would be grateful
regards
neil

Visual and sound alert = when ticked:
the long empty box = name of a program to run if the conditions are met
the box with 3 dots = opens up explorer to allow you to browse for the program name to go in the 'long box'
the TEST = a way to run the selected program right now, to make sure that Networx calls it, and it runs, and it produces the visual alert and sound.

Run = same idea

PS The 'Run' program could be a .bat that contains a script to send an e-mail, etc. to someone else, i.e. your friend is using your bandwidth and he's just used more that 5GB so the 'Run' on his PC sends an e-mail as an 'instant' alert to you on your PC (as soon as you check your e-mail).

Very nice Andrew, I must have missed reading about this elsewhere.

Ok, I have the latest version 5.3.0 32-bit, I have checked for an update "No new version is available" but I do not have any option under the Notifications tab to send emails. Can someone shed some light on this?

It's not the official release yet, however it can be downloaed here.

You can safely use it as it will become an official release soon.

I have seen elsewhere on this site that Gmail is not compatible with WiFi Guard, so perhaps that also applies to NetWorx. I have the same problem with email notification using WiFi Guard, except I'm trying to use the main email from my ISP, Suddenlink. So my SMTP field says smtp.suddenlink.net:25 . Softperfect, any thoughts on why this would not work?

You need to use the secure connection (TLS) option with gmail.

Does it work in your regular email client (Outlook or something)?

Re: Understanding the Notifications tab settings   09 June 2014, 20:02

Try changing the Port from 25 to 587.

Re: Understanding the Notifications tab settings   12 June 2014, 04:11

Did changing the port solve your problem?
Just to be clear, on my system I've configured the e-mail settings as follows:

smtp server.... smtp.ddddddd.com:587
e-mail address nnnnnnnn@dddddddd.com
user name...... nnnnnnnn@dddddddd.com
pwd............... pppppppp
connection...... Regular (or use Regular Port STARTTLS, but don't use Dedicated Port (TLS))

When you select Regular the default port is 25, change it to 587 and then click the [Test] button.
But I don't use Gmail or TLS, so my solution may not work for you. If necessary, check the port expected by Gmail, it may be different from

Tried with port 587 but email sending still failed. I am only attempting to use Outlook as my email client - not Gmail. Any other help you can provide is appreciated.

Re: Understanding the Notifications tab settings   14 June 2014, 01:31

Sorry, no other ideas.

I'd suggested 587 because my e-mail provider made that change for security reasons and when some security software tried to use 25 it was considered as 'forwarding' (I think that was the terminology used).

Maybe you should contact suddenlink and ask them if they have any ideas.
