SoftPerfect Traffic Meter monitors your network traffic with the use of specific rules called filters. Below are filter examples to help you quickly learn the program.
To create a new filter, select from the main menu Filters - Add a Filter. To edit or delete a filter, use Edit Filter or Delete Filter.

Here is how to create or edit a filter:
| Filter Name | Enter a name for your filter. e.g. "My Internet Traffic". |
| Bi-Directional | If this checkbox is marked, the filter captures packets from both the sender and recipient. It is recommended to leave this option on. |
| Source | Specify a particular sender of the packet using: |
|
|
| Source Port | Specify the port from which the packet is sent or use the default value of "Any port". |
For Destination the rules are similar, except the recipient of the packet is specified. In this example the filter will monitor all traffic between the computer on which the program is running and any other computer having an IP in the following range 192.168.8.1 - 192.168.11.254 (The addresses of the local area network, as an example).
