Filters

SoftPerfect Traffic Meter monitors your network traffic with the use of specific rules called filters. Below are filter examples to help you quickly learn the program.

To create a new filter, select from the main menu Filters - Add a Filter. To edit or delete a filter, use Edit Filter or Delete Filter.

SoftPerfect Traffic Meter main window

Here is how to create or edit a filter:

Filter Name Enter a name for your filter. e.g. "My Internet Traffic".
Bi-Directional If this checkbox is marked, the filter captures packets from both the sender and recipient. It is recommended to leave this option on.

Source Specify a particular sender of the packet using:

  • My Computer - The computer on which the program is running.
  • Any IP address - The sender’s IP address is not restricted to any one address or any limited range.
  • Any IP address, exclude specified - Any IP address except the specified one.
  • Any IP address, exclude range - Any IP address excluding the specified range.
  • Specified IP address - The specified IP address only.
  • Specified IP Range - The specified range of IP addresses only.

Source Port Specify the port from which the packet is sent or use the default value of "Any port".

For Destination the rules are similar, except the recipient of the packet is specified. In this example the filter will monitor all traffic between the computer on which the program is running and any other computer having an IP in the following range 192.168.8.1 - 192.168.11.254 (The addresses of the local area network, as an example).
