netscan.xml Encryption   24 February 2015, 13:58

Hi Andrew,

Would it be possible to encrypt the user name and password as well as the SNMP community name within the netscan.xml? I've just realized that's it's saves it as plain text in my user profile area.

This would also apply to SPM's Registry values for SNMP community names also saved in clear text here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SoftPerfect\Switch Port Mapper\Devices

Thanks,
Mark

Yes, we are currently in the process of implementing a credentials manager to unify the login-password management, and as a part of this change, all passwords will be encrypted.

Really Nice!

But can I take the netscan.xml to another system with the passwords working? I backup serverall config in case of a meltdown of my system and I want to know for sure I can rebuild and Netscan with those passwords still working smile

Really like the "try all login pairs" feature smile

thx in advance

Yes, the encryption is not bound to a specific computer. We use a pretty simple encoding algorithm, though it should be sufficient to protect the passwords from being compromised.
