Hostnames with special characters (e.g. dash or hyphen)   15 January 2015, 12:20

Hi there

I am trying to import a list of hosts and I am getting an error message. The hostnames have a "-" (dash or hyphen) in the middle, e.g.: MERT-25639.
When I import these names, Netscan assumes, because of the dash, that I am trying to input a IP address range (e.g.: 192.168.1.1-192.168.2.254) and it gives me the error message "Unrecognised IP address format (mert)".
Is there a way to tell Netscan this is actually the hostname and not an IP address range?

Thanks for your help.

Good catch. I have several clients that have host names with dashes in them too. I have not had to import a list but I need to this would not be a good thing. -WS

No worries, I'll fix this tomorrow.

The program should check values on the left and on the right of "-" and parse the line as a host name unless valid IP addresses are present.

The fixed build is available for downloading. A host name that contains dashes should no longer break the import.
