Increasing live display scan speed

Increasing live display scan speed   15 October 2015, 07:14

I am using live display to monitor a network segment with about ~2000 addresses. I can scan this segment in less than 60 seconds when running a normal scan, even with quite a few queries set up. However when using live display the scanner slows down considerably and takes close to 20 seconds on each address. I have tried tweaking ping timeouts and thread count but nothing seems to speed it up.

Is there a way to increase the speed of the live display so that it crawls through the network faster?

Thanks!

Not at the moment: the live display rescanning runs in one thread, which may be slow for large network segments.

Perhaps we can implement multi-thread live display in the future.

Thanks! Until multithread live display becomes a reality, could you add a keyboard shortcut for "Rescan previously undiscovered computers" (maybe Ctrl-Shift-Enter)?

Thanks for maintaining this great program!

You can assign a shortcut to any action, including this one. Simply check the Shortcuts tab settings wink

Was wondering if increasing the live display scan speed is any closer to reality? Thanks!

Yes, we've just added multi-threaded background scanning in the latest builds.

It uses 1/10th of the maximum thread limit, so with the default setting of 50 threads, background scanning would be performed with 5 threads. That would be 5x times faster than before.

It now also respects the Scan in random order setting and if set, devices are scanned in background in a random order.

Sometimes you can find a solution faster if you try the forum search, have a look at the knowledge base, or check the software user manual to see if your question has already been answered.
