How to suppress security alerts during a scan   18 June 2020, 11:46

Hi,

Apart from adding the software to an 'Allowed/Secure List', is there any way to stop network security alerts when NetScan is run on a PC?

Many thanks,

It is not very clear what you mean. The Network Scanner itself doesn't display any security alerts as such. If some of your other software does that (like an IDS), it's exactly what they are supposed to do, i.e. detect a scan.
What I mean is when a scan is run on a PC at a remote site, a security alert is triggered at the Head Office. I just wondered if there was some way to avoid detection when a scan is carried out.

For example 'Angry IP Scanner' or 'Advanced IP Scanner' do not have the full functionality and options range of SoftPerfect NetScanner, but when a scan is carried out, there are no security alerts raised.

Thank you for all your help.

That is most likely a coincidence. Intrusion detection systems (IDS) are supposed to detect scanning no matter which application is used.

You can try these (in order of relevance):
  1. In Options on the General tab enable the Scan in random order option. This will scan devices and ports in random order, and may help to avoid triggering some IDS.
  2. Use fewer threads. Set the Maximum threads parameter to a lower number. This will reduce the number of parallel scans.
  3. Use fewer scanning options, to find out what triggers the security alert.
