Icon with a yellow triangle and exclamation mark next to a device

Started by Corey

Dear Support,

I would like to know the meaning of the symbol with a yellow/orange triangle with the '!' exclamation mark (bang) in the middle. I see it in the scan results list next to one of the scanned devices.
Is there a reference for it somewhere in the manual I am just missing?

Thank you.

The yellow/orange triangle with the exclamation mark indicates a scanning error or an interrupted scan.

You can view all status symbols and their meanings by going to View - Legend in the main menu.
Thank you for the quick reply.

Is there a way to determine what causes this scanning issue?

Most likely the scanning of that device was aborted because it exceeded the time limit.

Please check the value you have set under Settings - General - Max thread run time. When a scan thread exceeds this limit, the application first attempts to shut it down gracefully, and if that fails, it terminates the thread, displaying the error/warning icon.
Thanks. I had adjusted that 10 seconds and the ICMP/Ping timeout was 1 second with 3 attempts before. I didn't see how it could timeout on a thread given those limits. Maybe it is doing one of the other tasks like checking other services/sockets NB-TCP/SMB or something that is a blocking call that hangs it up?

Yes, it probably was one of the blocking calls such as NB-TCP or SMB.

If you increase the max thread run time limit (in most cases there is no need to set one at all), you will be able to see what happens more clearly. When a device scan takes too long, you can right-click it, select Properties, and view both what the scanner is doing and how long it's been in that state.
