Size of files stored with the Windows hybrid boot   28 February 2015, 04:24

When hybrid boot is active and Windows keeps the files stored in a ramdisk during shutdown, and I have a 300MB ramdisk, will it write exactly 300MB to my physical disk on shutdown, or just the same size as the files currently on the ramdisk?

I don't want to disable hybrid boot, and have created a batch script to delete all the folders and files in a ramdisk before shutting Windows down, but I'm still worried that it may be writing 300MB of dummy data to my SSD every time I shut it down.

Just create a logon-time RAM disk, not a boot-time one. It will me mounted at logon and dismounted upon logoff, before Windows starts saving its kernel memory.

Alternatively disable the hybrid boot. You will get less writing to your SSD and not so much different boot time.

Using a logon-time RAM disk with the "clear memory upon unmounting" setting did the trick, thank you.
