How to prevent duplicate RAM Disk icons in the notification area

Started by MinJae

Hello,

I would like a permanent solution for the issue where RAM Disk application repeatedly creates duplicated entries inside Windows'
"Taskbar → Other system tray icons → Show/Hide icons" settings menu.

I have used the batch script you provided to clear the tray icon cache, and it does work. However, this method also resets all of my custom tray icon visibility settings, which I would like to avoid.

What I need is not a reset method, but a way to prevent RAM Disk application from generating duplicate entries in the first place.

Could you please provide guidance on what can be configured or adjusted so that Windows does not continuously create new icon entries for your application? For example:
- application startup behavior
- how the tray icon is registered
- relevant registry settings
- any known conditions that cause repeated registration

I would appreciate any workaround or technical guidance that helps prevent the issue from occurring, rather than only resetting the accumulated entries.

Thank you.

This behaviour is due to your using an old version of the RAM Disk application.

Versions prior to 4.4.1 used the tray icon hint as the identifier. Because the hint dynamically changes with available memory, Windows treats each update as a new icon and creates multiple entries. Starting with version 4.4.1, RAM Disk instead uses a fixed GUID as its identifier, preventing duplicates even when the hint text varies.

If you would like a permanent solution without using the script, please update RAM Disk to version 4.4.1 or later.
