How to setup bridging   06 October 2011, 19:28

I am evaluating your software to be used in a test environment. I am trying to create a virtual masking running 2003 Server that shall serve as bridge between test computers and a sql-server.

The 2003 Server has two network adapters (shows up in the device manager). In the Connection emulator bridging dialog there are only two options "Local Area Connection" and "WAN Network Interface (IP)"

How do I setup the system?

Thanks,
Hans

It looks like you have got only one network card (NIC) in that server or it's not configured.

Normally for two NICs you would have two networks that by default are named Local Area Connection and Local Area Connection 2.

These are the ones to be bridged.

Bridging - how to setup?   29 September 2012, 02:03

I see a similar problem: the windows XP OS recognizes two LAN interface cards. the SoftPerfect Emulator software does not recognize the second card and therefore is not available under bridging.
Could this be because we are using a trial version of the software ?

Bridging - how to setup?   29 September 2012, 15:13

No, it's because the network card was added after the software had been installed.

In order to fix this, please do the following:

1. Open the newly added connection's properties.

2. Untick SoftPerfect Research Driver, click OK.

3. Open the properties and tick the driver again. Click OK.

Also restart the Connection Emulator and It should work now.

Issue with CE bridging   28 March 2014, 06:03

Hello all,

We're having troubles trying to setup our WAN testing platform, using CE on a WinXP machine that we want to make acting as our WAN link between 2 different subnets.
Our need is to have several machines on one side (feat. a Central site) and several machines on the other side (our remote site).

So we thought we could install CE on a machine with 2 network cards that we would bridge through CE (Tools menu). Despite adding routes manually, we can't ping the remote machines from the 'central' ones. Could it be that the CE bridging can't be used for that kind of configuration ?
Thanks in advance for any help on this matter.
Cheers,
Serge

A simple picture to illustrate what I also tried with my laptops, featuring our lab install. In our lab, it's not a WinXP machine but a Win7, but that shouldn't make any difference.

Many thanks,
Serge

Unfortunately it does not work with WiFi adapters.

The way the bridging is implemented is two adapters are switched into the promiscuous mode. This enables the bridge to receive packets destined to other devices.

This article explains in detail why it's not that easy (in fact not really possible) to bridge a wired and a wireless connection.

Sometimes you can get the answer faster if you try the forum search and/or have a look at the software user manual to see if your question has already been answered.
