Those icons are a part of the device type detection feature. They represent device categories and are there for user convenience and easier visual representation. Each user can assign the icon they prefer.
The general idea for each icon was as follows:
Some devices can fall into more than one category. That's why our application suggests an icon, but ultimately it is up to the user to choose what suits their preferences best.
That being said, to make the meaning of the device categories clearer within the app, we will add hints for those icons (shown on mouse hover) in the next couple of days and post here a link to the updated version.
The general idea for each icon was as follows:
- Networking Infrastructure - blue
Devices that establish and manage network connectivity: router, Wi-Fi extender, modem, switch, gateway, firewall, VPN, PoE switch, network appliance, small cell, cloud. - Servers & Data Storage - grey
Devices that provide centralized services and data storage in a network: NAS, server, virtual machine, mail server, file server, proxy server, web server, domain server, database. - Personal Computing & Peripherals - green
Standard end-user computers and the devices typically connected to them: computer, laptop, desktop, printer, scanner, POS, barcode scanner, USB device, terminal, IP phone, VoIP device, conferencing. - Mobile & Wearable Devices - orange
Portable personal devices: mobile phone, tablet, MP3 player, eBook reader, smart watch. - Home Entertainment - purple
Devices primarily used for consuming media and entertainment: media player, television, game console, streaming dongle, speaker/amp, AV receiver, cable box, disc player, audio player, remote control, radio, projector. - Smart Home & Internet of Things (IoT) - teal
Devices used for home automation, convenience and environmental control: smart device, smart plug, light, voice assistant, thermostat, power system, solar panel, smart meter, HVAC, smart appliance, smart washer, smart fridge, smart cleaner, sleep tech, fitness, garage door, pool, sprinkler, touch panel, controller, scale, toy, robot, weather station, clock. - Security & Monitoring - red
Devices related to security, surveillance and personal/environmental monitoring: IP camera, doorbell, smart lock, health monitor, baby monitor, pet monitor, alarm, motion detector, security system, smoke detector, water sensor, sensor, Fingbox, Domotz box. - Specialized & DIY Electronics - brown
Specialized, industrial, hobbyist and component-level devices: automotive, car, photo camera, photo display, mic, industrial device, medical device, energy, Raspberry, Arduino, processing unit, circuit board, RFID tag, communication. - Question mark is for devices that could not be categorised automatically.

We've added helpful hints that appear when you hover the mouse over those icons. If you'd like to use this functionality now, please download the latest build here.
