IP ranges not working   01 June 2006, 08:06

Hi.
I needed to limit one small subnet (10.*.*.*) to 30k and internet to 128k. So I created two groups of IP ranges.

Local - 10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
and
Net - 1.0.0.0 - 9.255.255.255
+ 11.0.0.0 - 255.255.255.254

Local worked fine, but Net wasn't detected (no traffic counted, no limiting applied).
I created smaller groups (11.0.0.0-50.0.0.0, 50.0.0.1-100.0.0.0, etc.) and some of them worked and some not.
What's wrong? I'd like the best to use the NOT operator to invert the group Local ...

Dont create IP ranges for the internet, just ensure that the 10.x rule is above an 'Any IP Address' rule ie.

1. Allow local traffic rule
2. Limit 10.x to to 30k rule
3. Limit 'Any IP address' to 128k

Rule 2 will take precedence over rule 3 for any 10.x nodes.

Yes, that a correct way, but... the ranges 1.0.0.0 - 9.255.255.255 + 11.0.0.0 - 255.255.255.254 must work anyway. I'll check it and get back with the answer or fix.

Update: this was a bug. If an IP address in decimal form is greater than 2^31, this could be handled incorrectly. New pre-release build fixes that.

Sometimes you can get the answer faster if you try the forum search and/or have a look at the software user manual to see if your question has already been answered.
