Why does port 8702 need to be open?

Why does port 8702 need to be open?   15 December 2005, 11:31

hi can you tell me why i should open port 8701 & 8702 i don't see anything happening on port 8702 i consider open ports to be a risk can you confirm why port 8702 needs to be open...can i close it ?????

TCP port 8701 is used by the Standard edition of the bandwidth manager. TCP port 8702 is used by the Lite edition of the bandwidth manager. So, it is not necessary to open both. Open the one according to the edition you are using.

please tell me when i execute softperfect banwidth manager i see the login and show that localhost i wonder why the program need me to use localhost and can i change connect to host to other word or IP?

Because you cannot connect to anywhere. The program GUI when you run it asks you where you would like to connect, assuming the server running the second part of the bandwidth manager - system service. In most cases the service is installed on the same PC with GUI, you should use localhost to connect to the same PC.

Sometimes you can get the answer faster if you try the forum search and/or have a look at the software user manual to see if your question has already been answered.
