Using Bandwidth Manager to throttle remote backups during work hours

Hello. I hope you can help.

I have a situation where I have a server 2022 standard installation with lots of storage which is used to hold backups. Each day, servers in remote offices transfer their backups to it over VPNs. The problem is that we have just installed a super-fast leased line at our office, meaning the remote sites are now able to send the data much faster, and this is causing their VPNs to be fully consumed by the backup operation leaving no capacity for other things, such as remote desktop services.

I would like to be able to throttle back inbound data from these remote sites during the working day, but allow full bandwidth overnight when there are no staff in the office.

Please could you advise if your product is suitable.
Thank you

Yes, that should technically work. You could set up rules to restrict incoming traffic to a certain limit during specific hours, for example throttling during business hours and allowing full speed overnight.

However, it's important to note that the software can't realistically handle more than about 1 Gbit of throughput per second. So it really depends on what your server does day to day. If it's mostly just holding backups and your leased line speed is 1 Gbps or less, it should work well for your scenario. But if your connection is faster than that, you would likely need a dedicated hardware appliance for bandwidth management and shaping instead.
