How can I limit downloads to 256kbps and uploads to 128kbps? Thanks

Create two rules one for uploads and one for downloads with these rates. Also please review the on-line manual included with the program or on the web-site.

Re: Limit Down and Up   30 March 2006, 00:01

I've read the manual and still couldn't figure out how to limit the uploads and downloads correctly.

I've tried the following setup:
Rule 1:
Direction: Incoming
Rate: 128kbps
Protocol: TCP/UDP
Interface: LAN
Source: (the address of the PC being limited)
Dest: Any
Port: Any

Rule 2:
Direction: Both
Rate: 256kbps
Protocol: TCP/UDP
Interface: LAN
Source: (the address of the PC being limited)
Dest: Any
Port: Any

I've tested this setup and it worked for awhile but the day after the whole network started to slow down. When I disabled the rules, the network started to speed up again. Maybe i'm doing something wrong...

Btw, the server is a computer with 2 ethernet cards (1 for the internet and 1 for the lan) and is using ICS

Re: Limit Down and Up   30 March 2006, 11:57

Add this before those two rules:

Direction: Both
Rate: Unlimited
Protocol: Any IP Based
Interface: LAN
Source: Whole IP Range: 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.0.255
Destination: Whole IP Range: 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.0.255
Dest: Any
Port: Any

Change 192.168.0.0/192.168.0.255 to whatever your IP range for your lan is.

Thanks Barry! You are correct.

Jon: Also change Rule 2's direction to 'Outgoing' instead of 'Both'.

hi
why first we must make this rule ?

Direction: Both
Rate: Unlimited
Protocol: Any IP Based
Interface: LAN
Source: Whole IP Range: 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.0.255
Destination: Whole IP Range: 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.0.255
Dest: Any
Port: Any

To allow a high speed in local area network. Without that rule your LAN speed will be throttled as well as Internet speed.

Can I add this rule after I add my limited internet speed rule(17rule for 17 komputer that limited to 4.99kB/s)?because I do that...my Limited internet speed rule dont work..why?

Re: Limit Down and Up   07 May 2006, 17:17

Please post your complete rules here. Without that I cannot answer why the rules do not work.

There's no enough information. I need to know your exact network layout, where the bandwidth manager is installed, IP addresses.

Re: Limit Down and Up   08 May 2006, 03:09

I just buy this software.....
I have one server that connect to 17 client...I limit each client 4.99kB/s internet bandwidth...but I have share music from my server to client..I don't want to limit between my client and server...
But I just set the new rule...it is working fine...can you give an advice whether this rule are correct or not?

Server IP: 192.168.1.100
17 computer IP: 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.17

Rule 1:
Direction: Both
Rate: unlimited
Protocol: Any IP Based
Interface: Any Interface
Source: 192.168.1.100
Source port: Any
Dest: Any
Dest Port: Any

Rule 2 to 18:
Direction: Both
Rate: 5113 (4.99kB/s)
Protocol: TCP/UDP
Interface: Any Interface
Source: 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.17
Source port: Any
Dest: Any
Dest Port: Any

rule 18:
Direction: Out
Rate: 5113 (4.99kB/s)
Protocol: TCP/UDP
Interface: Any Interface
Source: Any
Source port: Any
Dest: 192.168.1.17
Dest Port: Any

Rule 19:
Direction: In
Rate: 2050 (2.00kB/s)

Yes, your rules seem to be perfect for your network.

Limit Uploads and Downloads   09 April 2006, 00:32

The problem i am having is that when i follow your instructions posted on this forum i don't get any traffic towards the computer i am trying to limit.

Now i have included the rule that allows traffic to all the network. Unlimited-ip based-and after the whole ip ranges....Now i have named the Nic that connects to my adsl "To ISP" and the one that goes to the network "to the Network" i have applied these rules

Rule#1 In: 14.6kb/s
protocol:tcp/upd
Source: Mac address of the comp i am trying to limit
Port:any
Destination:Any Port:any
Interface:To the Network

This is limiting uploads i hope...

Now to limit Downloads:
Rule#1 In: 45kb/s
protocol:tcp/upd
Source:Any Port:Any
Destination:Mac address of the comp i am trying to limit
Port:any
Interface:To the Network

This seems to work but please tell me if it correct and if not, please give me the alternative.
Thanks
Terry

Uploads Downloads   09 April 2006, 00:35

Allow this correction.

Now to limit Downloads:
Rule#2 Out: 45kb/s
protocol:tcp/upd
Source:Any Port:Any
Destination:Mac address of the comp i am trying to limit
Port:any
Interface:To the Network

This seems to work but please tell me if it correct and if not, please

Re: Limit Uploads and Downloads   09 April 2006, 04:06

These rules are absolutely correct. These rules may not work correctly if you have other rules defined above these. To be sure, I need to have a look at whole your ruleset.

Re: Limit Uploads and Downloads   29 April 2006, 02:42

Hi!
I have the same network topology like Terry!
ISP
|
ADSL Router(with 192.168.1.1 LAN interface)
|
PC with 2 NIC's and BWM instaled(NIC #1 Switch Side and NIC #2 Router Side)
|
Switch
/ | \
PC1.........PC30(clients)
all the clients have IP from 192.168.1.201 to 192.168.1.230 subnet 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.1.1

I read all the posts in this forum about the way to setup rules!!!!
I want in my network to control for every client the web bandwidth only! so! i setup the above rule!

Rulename: HTTP
Direction: in
Transfer Rate: 10KB/sec
Source: Whole IP Range from 192.168.1.201 to 192.168.1.230
Port: 80,8080,443
Destination: any
Port: any
Interface: NIC#1

When i setup this rule in BWM nothing hapens!!!!!!!! i have full bandwidth with no filtering!!!!!!
Is something wrong in this rule???
Is there any detailed guide about how to setup the rules?

Re: Limit Uploads and Downloads   29 April 2006, 03:15

It must be
Rulename: HTTP
Direction: Both
Transfer Rate: 10KB/sec
Source: Whole IP Range from 192.168.1.201 to 192.168.1.230
Port: any
Destination: any
Port: 80,8080,443
Interface: NIC#1
or
Rulename: HTTP
Direction: Out
Transfer Rate: 10KB/sec
Source: Whole IP Range from 192.168.1.201 to 192.168.1.230
Port: any
Destination: any
Port: 80,8080,443
Interface: NIC#1
