We are looking into a product to shape bandwidth of users. I have approx 450 clients behind a router. am wanting to know does the bandwidth box sit inline between the router and the users, or does it sit to the side? If it does sit inline, what happens to traffic if the bandwidth software quits working? Also does my badnwidth box have to have one or 2 nic cards? I was not able to determine this via the web page drawing. thanks for any help.

Hi Alan,

Normally, the box sits between your router and the users. All traffic will flow through the BWM box. Indeed it will have two network cards, one on the Internet side and one on the lan side.
BWM never quits working, at least not when you use the final version. I'm using the software for years and never had a problem besides minor configuration issues.
In the event that BWM quits (unlikely) and you are using the internal BWM bridge, users will be unable to surf.

Cheers,
Arthur.

So what is the max users behind one of these? I would want to have about 250-300 users get bandwidth shaped. Can this software handle that load?

Hi Alan,

I have more than 450 users in my WISP.

I use BWM in a Core 2 Duo with 3 GB Ram (Windows 2003 Server)

Thanks for the reply, I have it setup in test mode now.
