Email configuration issues   08 December 2014, 15:54

Trying to configure email notification always results in a fail message. All of the entered email data is correct.

Please specify what exactly that message says, otherwise it is impossible to give a helpful answer.

The message says " E-mail sending failed". This error occurs when I try to configure email and send a "test" from the "Configure e-mail settings" dialog.

Could you perhaps post a screen shot of what you are entering in the mail settings?

I have the screen shot but don't know how to add it to your message dialog box to upload it to you.

Here's what it says:
SMTP server=mail.comcast.net
E-mail address = my email address (r***n10@comcast.net)
User Name= r***n10
Password= my email account password

This is the information from my email account, which works fine.

Well, according to the documentation from your ISP, the SMTP server should be smtp.comcast.net, not mail.comcast.net.

If this still doesn't work, you will need to install OpenSSL and configure a secure SMTP connection in NetWorx.

Same issue.

How do I install OpenSSL and configure a secure SMTP? Is it a lot of work to do so? Alternatives?

You need to download it and then install.

Installed OpenSSL (64-bit Light), but still get the error message "E-mail sending failed".
Not sure if Networx knows where to look for the libraries.
Not sure why Networx disabled the "Connection" dropdown.
Not sure what port Networx is using.
Not sure why it isn't working (port, security, user, password, server, OpenSSL)?

I no longer have the portable installed, but since have done a full install.

NetWorx knows where to look for the libraries. It looks for them in the so-called %PATH% global variable, which the OpenSSL installer should have updated.

In your case, NetWorx (probably) disables the Connection dropdown because it must be restarted after OpenSSL was installed.

NetWorx uses port 25 by default. This can be changed by adding a port number after the semicolon:

Unfortunately I can't tell you why it's not working. As the server you entered in your screen shot is up and running on port 25, it's most likely one of:
  • Your ISP is blocking outgoing connections to port 25 (many ISPs do so); or
  • The login or password is incorrect.

I'd recommend to try using the ISP-supplied SMTP server that comes as a part of your Internet package as it might just work.

You may also need to allow access for less secure apps in your Google account settings.

Yes, it is very common for ISPs to block port 25 to reduce spam:

Comcast

...we are updating our management of port 25. In order to ensure a more secure network and email domain, Comcast will no longer by default allow access to port 25 for our residential Internet users. In addition, we are asking comcast.net email users to migrate to port 465, which offers SSL encryption. We will continue to support the industry standard port 587. Upon request to our Customer Security Assurance team this block can be removed, enabling access to use port 25 for other email domains, though the comcast.net email servers will no longer accept submission via port 25.
