Blocking apps by network interface   12 March 2016, 21:41

Hi,

I know that this feature does not exist currently but is it technically possible for Networx to filter internet access for applications based on current active interface like:

Application WiFi Ethernet Dialup USB Dongle
-----------------------------------------------
App 1 Yes Yes No No
App 2 Yes Yes No No
App 3 Yes Yes Yes Yes
.
.
App n Yes Yes Yes Yes

With which the user can disallow certain apps to download if certain interface. Primary purpose is to disallow background services like windows update, etc to suck data from limited pack/ bandwidth interfaces.

I would completely understand if this is *not* an intended goal for Networx but I asked as I have been unable to find a suitable software for this while Networx seems to have the necessary ingredients for it and firewalls are bit of an overkill.

It does indeed sound more like firewall functionality. We would like to keep NetWorx a simple bandwidth monitoring utility, so I am afraid we would rather not implement this feature.

By the way Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 employ this automatically and don't download updates over a metered connection, see this article for details.

Thanks Andrew, I am aware of the same; MS has done good with this but it only applies to MS/ windows updates ... some other applications don't differentiate between normal and metered connection.

However, I respect your decision. Keep up the good work.
