What driver to install: WFP, TDI or none?   30 December 2016, 02:53

Using Windows 10:
During the installation process the choice is to be made between wfp or tdi implementation. I am very clueless on this subject.
Any suggestions which one should be chosen???
Thanx in advance!!

These are the different implementations of the LAN traffic filtering driver that comes with NetWorx:
  • TDI is a driver that works anywhere from Windows XP to Windows 10, but doesn't monitor so-called UWP apps on Windows 8 and above.
  • WFP is a driver that works on Windows 7 and above and monitors everything, but has compatibility issues on systems before Windows 10.

Generally WFP is a more reliable and standard way to filter traffic, but in practice due to installed third party software products (antivirus, firewall, etc) either driver may fail to work correctly.

So the short answer is:
  • If you need to exclude local traffic from NetWorx records, stick to TDI on Windows XP/7 and WFP on Windows 8/10.
  • If you are using Windows 7 and are having a problem with the TDI driver, try installing WFP instead.
  • If you don't need to exclude local traffic or you simply don't have it, then don't install any of these drivers at all.

Thanx a lot.
What's next, if problems with the WFP driver using Windows 10 occur? Just uninstall the complete NetWorx software and re-install with the other TDI driver?

Correct. Or, if you don't need to exclude local traffic, don't install any of these drivers at all.

I came across this thread in a Google search. Is it still the case that you need the TDI filter driver for excluding local traffic, or can the WFP driver do that now, too?

Both TDI and WFP drivers can exclude local traffic, but WFP support on systems below Windows 10 was rather poor. We recommend to use WFP on Windows 10 and TDI on earlier versions of Windows.
