Can't read HTML report sent to email   19 January 2017, 04:22

Hello - I just loaded up Networx. Configured the report section to send a monthly report to my email. Selected the HTML format. Tested the configuration and the report was generated and received at the proper email address just fine. However, I cant read the report - all a bunch of characters all run together. Something wrong with the coding? How can I correct this?
Thanks.

May I see that e-mail? You may be able to save it as a EML file, compress to a ZIP file and attach here.

Alternatively please take a screen shot and post it here.

The test report is fairly short - Here it is:

Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8

I used Eudora 7 for my email client. Other HTML messages work fine.
Thanks for your help.

I guess Eudora 7 doesn't support messages encoded with UTF-8 , after all it's ten years old. I'd recommend to use a newer e-mail client, e.g. Thunderbird.

Re: Can't read HTML report sent to email   22 January 2017, 04:05

There have been a couple of UTF-8 plugins made for Eudora in years past. They may work on text, but they dont do anything for displaying the Networx HTML report properly. Tried Thunderbird before - dont like it nearly as well as Eudora, so not worth changing programs just so I can read those reports. Too bad Networx cant send the report out as just text.

Not many things are "just text" these days. Are you sure there is absolutely no other more modern email client that you are willing to use? It may be a good idea to swith for many reasons, including compatibility, functionality and security, not just for NetWorx reports.

It's actually pretty easy to add a text format to the reports - we've added it in the latest builds.

Note though, that as of version 6 NetWorx is a paid app:
  • If you are using version 5.x, do not install it over your current installation - instead try the portable version in a separate folder.
  • If you are using version 6.0, you can install these builds over your current installation.

Re: Can't read HTML report sent to email   22 January 2017, 11:14

I've looked at several other email programs in the past, and none of them stack up to Eudora for my needs. Seems they all have some annoying feature or lack of features. Too bad Eudora did not continue to upgrade their software.

I use Networx 5.5.5 so no option there for a TEXT format on the report.

I also tried to have the report go to a file instead of email, but cant get that to work at all. Do I have to have a file already defined, like c:\networx.txt for the report to write to, or what do I need to do for that function to work right?

The root C:\ is usually write-protected for a regular user. Try making a folder, e.g. C:\NetWorx and specify C:\NetWorx\somefile.txt or C:\Users\<username>\Desktop\networx.txt

Re: Can't read HTML report sent to email   28 January 2017, 03:39

Trying to run that report still is not working. I setup a report to run as a file - sending file to: C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Networx.txt
I created a blank Networx.txt file in the Public Documents folder.
I tried testing with both the HTML and CSV file types and both tests came back with a message saying "Error running Report"

What do I need to do to get this to run?

This is because C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\ does not exist. It's a virtual folder Windows shows, but it's not really there - use C:\Users\Public\Documents\Networx.txt instead.

Ah so.... Thanks for clarifying that. I finally got the report to run and be able to read in FireFox, by naming the file Networx.html
I have the report set to run every month now. Will Networx write over that file each month, or will it add to it?
Thanks.

The report file will be overwritten every time.
