"Out of memory" message   23 May 2025, 10:08

Every 2-3 days my laptop screen locks up (can't open, close or switch windows) or goes black except for the taskbar. And then I get an "out of memory" message pop up. I have to restart the computer to fix this. Any ideas?

Are you certain that this error message is coming from the NetWorx app? We are not aware of any memory leaks in our software, but we are happy to do additional checks, to make sure that everything is fine within NetWorx. To help us investigate this further, please share your configuration with us. You can do this by going to Usage Reports - Backup, then compressing the resulting database file into a ZIP archive and sending it to us.

We have run the NetWorx application with your configuration, and observed no increase in memory usage. This suggests that the issue may stem from a memory leak in a third-party DLL embedded within the networx.exe process.

To investigate this further, please download Process Explorer from Microsoft. Once downloaded, launch the tool, select networx.exe in the Process list, and press Ctrl + D to display the list of loaded DLLs. Then go to File - Save As, export the data to a text file, and email it to us. This information may help us identify the source of your memory leak.

"Out of memory" message - Solution   23 May 2025, 10:51

Thank you for the list of DLLs loaded into the NetWorx process. It appears the culprit is windhawk.dll, which is part of the Windhawk customisation tool that you have installed.

A simple workaround would be to exclude NetWorx from Windhawk injection process. To do this, please follow these steps:
  1. Open Windhawk.
  2. Go to Settings - Advanced Settings - More Advanced Settings.
  3. In the Process exclusion list, add networx.exe to that list.
  4. Click Save and restart Windhawk.
  5. Reboot your system to ensure the Windhawk DLL is no longer injected into NetWorx.
This should resolve the memory leak issue.

In general, we do not recommend installing and using such customisation and beautification tools. They often lead to various problems. Not just with NetWorx, but with many other things in the system too.
