Wi-Fi 7 warning: use nl80211   01 July 2025, 17:37

I get this warning in dmesg running Linux Mint:
warning: 'networx' uses wireless extensions which will stop working for Wi-Fi 7 hardware; use nl80211

I'm running on very recent hardware: cpu is AMD Ryzen 7 8700G, motherboard is ASUS TUF X870 PLUS WIFI AM5 ATX.
Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8125 2.5GbE Controller (rev 0c)

NetWorx appears to be running ok. The warning seems to suggest ( "will stop working" ) that it won't run ok at some future point. It is far beyond me to understand this but I thought it worth feedback in case NetWorx needs some update.

That message just means the app is currently using some older system APIs (called Wireless Extensions) to get Wi-Fi info. These are being phased out and won't be supported on newer Wi-Fi 7 hardware.

We're already working on updating the app to use the modern replacement (nl80211), so this will be sorted out in upcoming versions. For now, the warning is harmless and everything should still work fine on existing hardware.

Appreciate the heads-up! ok, yes, thumb up
