'Display Speed in Taskbar' re-enables itself on process start

'Display Speed in Taskbar' re-enables itself on process start   16 August 2026, 04:14

I have no explanation for how this is happening, but I think it's something that I did. I had version 26.5 for over a month before it happened. While I do have Win11+StartAllBack (which introduces its own taskbar, vertical in my case), I've used both (along with NetWorx) for years.

I even broke out sqlite3 to confirm:
sqlite3 NetWorx.DB3 "SELECT * FROM CONFIG WHERE PARAM_NAME='TaskBar'"
Run NetWorx (1), disable 'Display Speed in Taskbar' in GUI (0), Quit NetWorx (0), Start NetWorx (1, and it's checked again in the GUI). So, it's not as much read-only as something about starting NetWorx that flips it, as if I have some other setting that requires it.

The only clue I can offer: A few weeks ago, I switched to a faster connection, and naturally I made some NetWorx adjustments, as shown below. I noticed the problem the next day.

-Notifications, to adjust Size. (btw, I still would love an option to simulate the behavior present in old versions whereby Notifications would go away themselves after X seconds, but that's another thread).
-Graph, to experiment with other types (ended up keeping it on Histogram).

I have no reason to have changed anything else and doubt that I did, but it's possible. If you know of any link between something in main Settings and the toggle in question, that's surely why, but I'm stumped.

Thanks

'Display Speed in Taskbar' re-enables itself on process start - Fixed   16 August 2026, 15:58

Thanks for the detailed report. This looks like a bug, not anything you did.

NetWorx still carries a one-time migration from the old taskbar deskband to the current widget. At startup it asks the shell whether the legacy deskband is still showing; if so, it hides it and switches the widget on, saving that to the database. That save is the problem - it can overwrite your own setting on every launch, which would explain the TaskBar flag flipping back to 1.

We suspect StartAllBack is involved, since it restores the classic taskbar's deskband support that Windows 11 doesn't normally have, but we haven't confirmed that part. Either way, your Notifications and Graph changes are unrelated.

We've now changed it so the migration no longer touches your widget setting at all. Download the latest build and install over the current version. Could you install it, untick Display Speed in Taskbar, quit, start again, and let us know whether it now works correctly?

Wow, yes, that works. Stays on 0.

I looked up the dates: the modem change was July 15/16. The last time I upgraded SaB was July 27. Since it definitely wasn't happening before July, and you think SaB is involved (which makes sense), I must have been wrong about the "next day" part above. I don't reboot often at all, so it might have been the next reboot where I first noticed it. Anyway, that's not really important. Thanks for the help.
