Re: Setting limits causes Internet connectivity loss

yesterday, by Andrew in NetMaster Forum

Unfortunately it's quite difficult to make NetWorx's Ignore LAN traffic option and NetMaster compatible, but more importantly there is little sense in doing that. If you need to have per application reports, use NetMaster, otherwise use NetWorx. There is no point in having two apps for the same purpose.

Compatibility with TinyWall

2 days ago, by Andrew in NetMaster Forum

It looks like TinyWall is the culprit in this case. When we installed both TinyWall and NetMaster, setting a limit in NetMaster caused that application to lose Internet access. Probably TinyWall doesn't like that NetMaster intercepts Internet traffic when a limit is set. In that scenario, the intercepted traffic is re-injected under the System process. Try clicking Whitelist by process in

Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be reproducible. Could you please mention your OS version and post a screenshot showing all the installed apps? This may be a compatibility issue with some third-party software like an antivirus, firewall or similar traffic filtering tools.

Re: How secure is credential manager storage

5 days ago, by Andrew in Network Scanner Forum

Not really. Instead, any user-supplied passwords are scrambled with a simple XOR-based algorithm. They do not appear as plain text. The reason we don't use DPAPI for secure storage is that it would create problems with the portable version and config files shared between systems. For example, if the data was encrypted on system A and the config is then opened on system B, the scanner will not

Re: Traffic processing service and CPU usage

13 days ago, by Andrew in NetMaster Forum

Update: we have implemented a much faster packet processing path when NetMaster is used in monitoring mode. Now, if there are no assigned priorities/limits and no blocked apps, NetMaster is able to save a lot of CPU resources. In our tests it was using 1-2% CPU on a 100 Mbit download. You can download the latest build here. Please note that if you have some limits set or blocked apps, there wi

Re: Traffic processing service and CPU usage

18 days ago, by Andrew in NetMaster Forum

It's kind of normal as NetMaster needs to intercept every data packet, analyse it and submit it for further processing. That all takes time and CPU cycles, i.e. on 40 Mbit it will handle about 3500 individual IP packets per second. Having said that, there is room for optimisation and we'll address this CPU usage issue in the next release.

No, our NetWorx app only supports Windows, macOS and Linux. We don't have any apps for phones or tablets.

Re: Changing "Internet only" to "Internet + LAN" blocks web access

23 days ago, by Andrew in NetMaster Forum

It sounds like you want to monitor other devices connected to your WiFi. This is not generally possible, and the reason is not a different protocol, but the fact that those devices are connected to the router independently. Here is an article that explains this in details: How to monitor all my devices: laptops, phones, smart TV, etc.

Re: Changing "Internet only" to "Internet + LAN" blocks web access

24 days ago, by Andrew in NetMaster Forum

There isn't really any logging at the moment, and all that setting is supposed to do is to exclude typical local IP address ranges from monitoring. It might somehow conflicted with a third-party product like a VPN client or antivirus, though it's unclear how exactly. Since you probably don't want to monitor your LAN anyway, simply leave it at Internet only - it also offers best performance by

The answer to this question is a little complicated and depends on how you set up NetWorx. Generally, it would only include the computer where it's installed and exclude any other devices. Please see this article for details.

That's strange indeed. It's not something that was supposed to happen. We will give it a bit more testing in this area and hopefully resolve it soon.

Re: Database file gets corrupted after 1-2 weeks

Do you mean a hardware reset with the button that forces the computer to restart? If so, it is not recommended. While the SQLite database engine we are using is corruption-resistant, it may still be damaged in certain conditions. Here is a technical article describing how a corruption can occur in SQLite.

Re: Some traffic is not captured

29 days ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

Unfortunately, the application monitoring mechanism in NetWorx is not perfect. We have seen similar under-reporting with some BitTorrent clients, but so far were unable to determine the reason. With that in mind, we have developed a new product called NetMaster from the ground up. It's a modern alternative to NetWorx and focused on app monitoring as well as bandwidth management. Kindly give

Re: Peristent RAM Disk with custom allocation size

You can simply format the disk manually with the format command in the command prompt. One of its command line parameters is the cluster size. Alternatively, you can stop using the image file as there is no need to keep browser cache between sessions. Then you can set the desired cluster size directly in the RAM Disk's properties:

Re: How to export traffic usage details, not just summary

6 weeks ago, by Andrew in NetMaster Forum

NetMaster does not keep such details, i.e. what hosts Chrome or any other process connects to. However, we have a similar function in our NetWorx app. The reasons we did not implement it in NetMaster are: a relatively small demand for such level of details these days, and a potential need for a lot of database space, for example in cases of torrent clients that can connect to hundreds of host

Re: How to move NetMaster extension within the taskbar

7 weeks ago, by Andrew in NetMaster Forum

Due to Windows limitations there doesn't seem to be a way to relocate extensions to a spot between taskbar icons. The extension can be resized and moved to the left or to the right of another extension. However the icons section, as well as the date/time pane, appear to be fixed in Windows and nothing can be placed between them.

Re: Available memory displayed is less than installed RAM

8 weeks ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk Forum

It is because the RAM Disk driver can only use as much memory as Windows permits. That is, on a 32-bit system you would be able to use 3.5 GB maximum, and often much less due to the space required and reserved by Windows for other processes. If you want to use the entire 8 GB RAM with our RAM Disk, you would need 64-bit Windows.

Implemented suggestion: Keep "sort by" in "Applications" tab after refreshing

2 months ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

Thank you, that's indeed a good suggestion. We have just made NetWorx remember the last sorting order upon refresh. You can download the updated builds here. If you want to monitor apps in real-time, I would also recommend taking a look at our new NetMaster product. It is basically a modern alternative to NetWorx designed to track network usage of apps, with additional control features. Here i

Re: High CPU usage

2 months ago, by Andrew in NetMaster Forum

Thank you for sharing the additional observations. The intermittent nature of this issue along with using a VPN service suggests there may be packet loops, where a third-party network driver and the NetMaster's driver keep forwarding a packet to each other causing above-normal CPU usage. We have added a workaround in the latest build, please give it a go and let me know how it works for yo

Re: Skype video call data usage

2 months ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

It sounds like it may be a bug in NetWorx caused by the third-party driver we are using to classify traffic by application. I am afraid we cannot really fix it, but instead I recommend trying our new NetMaster product. In addition to monitoring, it allows you setting priorities, which is especially useful for VoIP applications like Skype. More details are available in the NetMaster manual.

Re: Computer name in usage reports

Well, how would you tell them apart? I guess we can include the domain name like Domain\Computer, provided there are no identical domains in your environment.

Re: High CPU usage

2 months ago, by Andrew in NetMaster Forum

High CPU usage is possible, as even though NetMaster only listens to your traffic, it still has to process every network packet and classify it by application. Having said that, it is our new product and there may still be room for performance optimisations. Do you know how much data NetMaster was handling during this CPU spike? In other words, how fast is your Internet connection?

Re: Windscribe VPN

2 months ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

It's impossible to ignore LAN traffic and to choose a specific adapter to monitor at the same time. The reason for this is that when the "Ignore LAN traffic" option is on, the connection information is captured at a higher level in the system, before it reaches down to a specific network adapter. That's why the adapter selection is disabled when this option is on.
