Re: LAN freezes every 10 minutes exactly

2 months ago, by Andrew in Bandwidth Manager Forum

Yes, try doing these two commands in admin command prompt if the problem occurs again: net stop BMService net start BMService If this helps, the easiest thing is probably setup a watchdog script that tests network reachability and restarts the service should something go wrong.

Re: LAN freezes every 10 minutes exactly

Unfortunately there isn't much known about this issue. As we have a number of customers running their BM instances 24/7 with zero issues, there seems to be an external reason that only affects a few users, most likely connected to network card drivers. Just a couple of questions to narrow it down: When you say restarting the software does nothing: did you restart the actual Bandwidth Manager

Re: Error when downloading MAC-address or NIC database

2 months ago, by Andrew in Network Scanner Forum

It appears to be caused by an Internet Explorer configuration issue, as the Network Scanner uses its API to download files. As a workaround you can easily download the file manually. Then, if you are using the installed version, unzip the downloaded OUI.TXT to: C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\SoftPerfect Network Scanner\ If you are using the portable version, unzip OUI.TXT into

Re: Custom folders, volume label and drive icon

2 months ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk Forum

It indeed doesn't make sense to use a 24 GB image for a small amount of data. However, for your goals, you don't need to use an image at all: To have a set of predefined folders and a volume label, simply specify those in your RAM disk's properties as shown below. You can specify any number of folders that can also be nested. As the file system we recommend exFAT or NTFS, the former is a bit f

Sorry we can't reproduce this issue - we've tested with JDownloader downloading a 100 MB file and it worked as expected.

Re: Displaying multiple graphs

2 months ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

No, unfortunately in Windows version only one graph is possible (it combines readings from multiple ports). Though at the moment there is a special build of NetWorx available based on the same code as the Linux and macOS versions, which can do that. It has fewer features, but it can display one graph per port. You can download it here.

Re: Error C000009A

Likewise, builds 17692 and 17666 are insider previews. Unfortunately since insider previews often have bugs, we can only investigate the problem if makes it into an official release.

Re: Error C000009A

Windows build 17738 is an Insider Preview. From our experience, things are often broken in preview builds, so we'll check how it works when the release is out.

Re: Merge data from two columns into one virtual column

2 months ago, by Andrew in Network Scanner Forum

Those are called regular expressions and can be quite difficult to master. Here is an article in Wikipedia about them. In your case something like this should work. It will match any numbers and periods (decimal points): ([0-9.]+) By the way, if your source column is a Remote File column that connects to shared folder and looks for a file's version, another way to combine the two columns

Re: Enter custom name in the Host Name column

2 months ago, by Andrew in Network Scanner Forum

No, but there is a special column for custom tags or names. It is called Friendly names, see Options - Friendly Names / Comments in the main menu. You can choose to associate custom names with IP addresses, MAC addresses, host names or a combination of these.

Sorry we can't tell much from these screenshots and would need to see your data records. Back up your usage to a .DB file (Usage Records - Backup), compress it into a .ZIP file and attach it to a support ticket here. Please also mention what exactly doesn't match - it's not clear from the screenshots.

Re: Different values in General and Per Day reports

3 months ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

Most likely the display setting was changed to On-peak or Off-peak rather than All hours. This setting affects what is displayed in the Per Day, Per Week, Per Month and Custom reports. It has no effect on the General tab. So simply choose Display - All Hours, then click Refresh and the numbers should match:

Re: Slow RAM disk on a new gaming laptop

3 months ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk Forum

There could be two reasons why your speeds are low: There may be another disk filter driver or file filter driver that inspects everything written to and read from every disk. Usually this comes in a form of a Internet security product or antivirus, either of which can have a significant impact on performance. There may be a hardware issue with the memory itself and its timings configuration.

Re: Create temporary RAM disk that is not recreated after reboot

3 months ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk Forum

Thank you for your feedback. There isn't exactly a setting for that, but yes it can be easily achieved. Here is how: There is a console version of the program named ramdiskc.exe located in the application folder. It's designed for creating on-demand RAM disks. Any disk created with the console version is not visible in the GUI and disappears upon shutdown. So you could create a couple of sh

Re: Wipe Memory on Dismount option missing

3 months ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk Forum

The availability of this option depends on the type of RAM disk used: A boot-time RAM disk that is mounted on system boot. This type of disk is created by default and the "wipe memory" option is not there because it's simply not necessary. A boot-time RAM disk is unmounted just before the system shuts down or restarts and all RAM is then usually wiped by a built-in BIOS memory test.

Re: RAM-Disk exists after rebooting system

By saying "exists", do you mean it keeps files and folders? If so, this link can help: RAM Disk keeps files and folders after shutdown

Re: Does NetWorx bandwidth monitor increase ping?

3 months ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

No, it does not affect ping in any way. We have a separate software package called Connection Emulator to simulate network latency (increased ping) and other connection issues if that's something you want to do.

Re: Deleting ghost A: drive after uninstalling the RAM Disk app

3 months ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk Forum

It looks like Windows has retained a mount point somewhere. Check these registry keys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\DOS Devices As one of these may have A:\ allocated. Alternatively see if you can remove the persistent drive letter from Start - Run - diskmgmt.msc.

Re: Ramdisk SMB Share is not persistent

3 months ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk Forum

It is probably a timing issue where it takes longer to create a larger disk, which results in the Server service starting before the disk is ready. Please see this forum thread for a couple of workarounds.

Re: Two columns with identical names and /cols switch

3 months ago, by Andrew in Network Scanner Forum

The Scanner's code looks for the first column matching the requested name, and the search is case-insensitive. This can be easily worked around by renaming the SNMP column into something like SNMP Host Name and change /cols accordingly: ... /cols:"IP Address;System Description;SNMP Host Name"

Re: How to prevent Windows 10 update from corrupting RamDisk image

3 months ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk Forum

Unfortunately Windows 10 is somewhat "cruel" with applications, services and even drivers that run on it. I guess Microsoft designed it this way to make such slow and heavy system appear to work faster by killing running tasks after a rather short timeout. There is a relevant registry setting that applies to services, though I am not sure if it works for drivers too: HKEY_LOCAL_MA

Re: How to change RAMdisk size used for TEMP folder

3 months ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk Forum

For a RAM disk without an image, its size can easily be changed by editing the disk properties. Once the disk size was altered, a warning message will appear. When using the disk for temp files, we recommend clicking Cancel, gracefully closing all the running programs, and rebooting the computer. Otherwise clicking OK will forcibly remount the disk and may break programs that had open files on th

Re: Setting up separate profiles for different locations

3 months ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

If you want to keep separate usage records for each place, I am afraid this is not supported. However if you only want to monitor usage at home and ignore usage at any other place, there is a setting in NetWorx just for that. Simply go to the Main Settings. You will see a button titled Networks, which lets you exclude certain networks from monitoring. It detects all networks that you connect t

Re: Tracking current WiFi users

3 months ago, by Andrew in Network Scanner Forum

There are a couple of options you could use: You can scan your WiFi IP address range with our network scanner. The number of detected address should be very close to the number of WiFi users. You can also automate the scanning via the command line interface. If your access points support SNMP reporting, you may be able to pull the number of users from their SNMP tables with something like PRTG

Re: Can I use NetWorx on my Android phone to monitor WiFi data?

Unfortunately NetWorx is not available for Android. It only works on desktop platforms like Windows, macOS and Linux. For Android there is a built-in data monitor as well as few third-party apps to monitor your usage.

Re: Feature request: graph with no background

3 months ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

That's right the Y-axis is part of the frame and the X-axis doesn't really exist. It looks great in your setup anyway! Regarding saving the config, everything including the settings and usage is kept in a database. It can be backed up and restored via Usage Report - Backup.

Re: Feature request: graph with no background

3 months ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

That's a good idea, but we've implemented it a bit differently. There is a new setting Graph background transparent added in the Hidden Settings. The latest preliminary build with this setting can be downloaded here. When enabled, the current background color will be rendered as transparent. Any graph lines or text of the same colour will be also treated this way. So you can, for example, set

Re: Solution for a possible conflict with Microsoft Word

4 months ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk Forum

We haven't seen this specific issue with MS Word, but some applications do not work correctly with standalone volumes, which can be seen as I/O errors or simply the inability to access a RAM disk. To solve, try enabling the HDD emulation option in the RAM Disk settings. This option emulates a complete Hard Disk Drive with partitions indistinguishable from a real device, which usually fixes co

Re: Feature request: Specify DNS server per address range

Maximum flexibility is something we had in mind, so the DNS resolver was implemented as object that can be used from VB script. If you download the latest version from the home page, go to Options - Remote Scripting - New and add the following code: 'Resolve a name or IP address via DNS 'This example performs a reverse lookup 'Create internal DNS object set dnsObj = Internal.CreateObje
