Re: Filter consolidation

2 years ago, by r1993r in Switch Port Mapper Forum

Hi Andrew, sorry for my late response, I had to take some extended time off work. WOW... fantastic, works perfectly... thank you very much! You also beat me to it with the option to manage these filters CHEERS

Filter consolidation

2 years ago, by r1993r in Switch Port Mapper Forum

Hi, Is it at all possible to have multiple filters within the same field to reduce to amount of duplicated individual filters? So, for example, we like to filter out all non-user interfaces, which would include things like the Port Name containing VLAN, Null, TenGig, but currently doing this maxes out all available filters (hard limit of 5). If all of this could be combined within the same

As always, many thanks for such a quick solution! Ill give it a go, and share it with the team. Cheers

Thanks Andrew! Yes, that would be very useful, if not too much involved on your side!

Multi-user access or shared config database

2 years ago, by r1993r in Switch Port Mapper Forum

We are a small team of 5 network engineers, and this app gets used on a daily basis and has made a huge difference to how we troubleshoot problems. One thing we have want to do is find a way that we can all use the app but work from the same database/config, so that when either of us adds a new hub/rack we can all see it, otherwise we can all end up working from out of date/sync databases. W

Re: How to make sense of Port IDs

3 years ago, by r1993r in Switch Port Mapper Forum

PortID is the hardware index number assigned to the interface on the switch. They don't always correlate with the physical port number, but there's usually an offset of some sort. I notice you don't have Port Name enabled, which would show the physical port number.

Excellent many thanks! I understand about the latter and yes, that would be an option for us... Thanks again

Hi, hope you are all well... I hope you don't mind me making some further observations/suggestion... and I'm not inertially nit-picking, as you are making it increasingly more difficult for me to find things to tweak!! Would it be at all possible to be able to hide/minimise the filters once applied, to allow for more information to be displayed in the main list? We quite often have several

Fantastic, thanks for that tip.. that should do nicely!

Re: New features: groups, profiles, get switch info, command line parameters

Awesome work... thank you very much... all works great!!! One of the things that has been raised in the team, and I just wanted to throw it over to you, was if you ever considered having the option for a username/password login to access the app? The app has the capability to reconfigure and access switches, so protecting access to the app would add a layer of security, along with the encrypti

Re: New features: groups, profiles, get switch info, command line parameters

Thanks Andrew, and I understand, cheers for the explanation. Perhaps to make adding a single device a little easier, would you be able to offer the SNMPv3 profiles into the Add Device section, or perhaps even an option to duplicate the SNMP info between switch and router? Have a great weekend!

Re: New features: groups, profiles, get switch info, command line parameters

Thanks Andrew... I hadn't tried that approach to sort as it just didn't dawn on me that that would work - cheers! Re the final.. so I've already scanned a subnet, added the devices into a group, but then added a new switch to the rack, so I want to re-discover/scan the existing group. It could be useful that when I get to Manage Devices, select an existing Group, then Discover, that the group I

Hi. I've been using Port Mapper on a daily basis, and I can't emphasise enough how much easier it has made our job in troubleshooting issues, and is saving us a lot of time. The only downside being I can now fix more issues remotely, so I'm getting a little less exercise Could I possible make a few more suggestions please? Could you make the list of groups appear in alphanumerical order? I

Re: How to turn interfaces on and off with a single SNMP command

3 years ago, by r1993r in Switch Port Mapper Forum

In addition to the above I wanted to point out that the config is specific to Cisco switches and used the external SNMPSET (free) command line program for pushing the SNMP command to the switch. It makes use of the recently added feature whereby you can parse Column headers from the app into the command making the insertion of the possible and also the IP of the switch "%0". You must al

Re: Suggestion: Port Mapper/Network Scanner hybrid app

Thanks Andrew... I think I favour the separate config files, so we could have one for each Rack we have (approx 85), then have a single router entry in each one. Cheers

Re: Suggestion: Port Mapper/Network Scanner hybrid app

It just gets better and better! I did wonder about SNMPv3 when I saw the program options. I also discovered the Scripting option and noticed the IP & Mac Script which worked for PCs! These apps are so powerful! I noticed the SNMP MIB settings are global, and as a router IP may be different per subnet, would you consider being able to add the router's IP for the particular range into the

Re: Suggestion: Port Mapper/Network Scanner hybrid app

QuoteAndrewHaving said that, both Network Scanner and Port Mapper have extensive command-line support and can be configured to launch third-party applications. For example, you could easily configure Network Scanner to run Port Mapper against a specific IP address and vice versa. Could it therefore be possible for Network Scanner to return the MAC address of connected devices from a non-local ne

It certainly is... it has made our job much easier in such a short space of time! Looking forward to seeing how this develops and hope I can make future useful suggestions! Cheers

Suggestion: Port status and control

3 years ago, by r1993r in Switch Port Mapper Forum

Would it be possible to report Port Status if it is err-disabled? Currently only UP/DOWN for Admin Status and Status are shown. Perhaps Status could be UP/DOWN/ERR. GigabitEthernet1/0/13 is down, line protocol is down (err-disabled). On this, it would also be awesome if we could then shut/unshut the port to re-enable it. Port control and perhaps even interface Vlan assignment would be a very

Re: Suggestion: Use seed routers to discover and import connected switches

Fantastic, many thanks! That works much better, my only suggestion would be to perhaps separate the Port ID (which is usually just an index number e.g, 10123) and the actual name of the device (chosen by your selection method above). Essentially a separate column on the main view: Device Name, Port ID. Had you given any consideration to some of the other points I mentioned; saving/profiling

Thanks Andrew, happy to help/test where I can! Hopefully our order should be going through within the next few days, just need to get it signed off as it is not a part of normal procurement procedures.

Re: Suggestion: Use seed routers to discover and import connected switches

Wow... that's fantastic! I don't know if you spotted my message above about how the PortID is being displayed (Hostname is bold): 30 Re you update build, the Router also acts as a switch, so this would need to be scanned as part of the group, not just queried for the arp tables/mac db etc. When you return to the main screen after the device discovery, the group named is sown in the drop

Re: Suggestion: Use seed routers to discover and import connected switches

Hi again, are you able to consider this please.... The above solution works great and greatly simplifies the discovery process. We use a management subnet on each hub, which would comprise a router and say 6 switches. The discovery imports all of these but doesn't realize one is a router so is unable to determine the IPs of connected device due to it not querying the arp table. Given that th

Re: How to see how long there has been no response from an inactive device

Re: How to see how long there has been no response from an inactive device

I've found that this is currently sort of possible. Going through the settings I was able to turn on viewing of inactive devices and Last Scan does display how long it has been offline. Would be nice to make this more prominent, perhaps the ability to change the font colour?

Possible bug: Deleting additional filter options results in an access violation

3 years ago, by r1993r in Network Scanner Forum

Been playing about for a day or so now, and discovered that when I try to delete additional filter conditions, I get an error: "Access violation at address 0000000000000000 in module 'netscan.exe'. Execution of address 0000000000000000." However, I am able to close this message and carry on using the app, and the filter is removed. Whilst on the subject of filters, but for Port Mappe
