How to make NetScan show more scan items
9 years ago, by WindowsStar in Network Scanner Forum
Andrew, I have several "Remote File" scan items I am scanning for. Today I added 4 new ones but only 3 show up. I looked under the config view and they are not there as well. Perhaps it's a bug? See screenshot. Many thanks for all the hard work. -WS
Feature request: add 'file exists' and 'key exists'
9 years ago, by WindowsStar in Network Scanner Forum
If it these can be added it would be great. Would you add a FILE EXIST under Remote File, KEY EXISTS under Remote Registry? Many times I just need to know if it exist not what the file size is or value etc. are. Many Thanks -WS

I keep finding new ways to use this tool. It is so amazing how many things it does and helps me with. I would like to request Remote LDAP query under the Remote WMI, File, Registry if possible. Sometimes I need to query several different LDAP servers for information. Thank you. -WS
Re: NetScan will not STOP scanning
10 years ago, by WindowsStar in Network Scanner Forum
@Karl, as a network engineer it is not NetScan programming so much as TCP/IP. TCP/IP was designed to continue working with out interruption so NetScan is trying to override this normal behavior. NetScan has a "force" threads to stop but note that using it can cause your system to become unstable and you will need to reboot. Forcing TCP/IP so stop is not the best course of action. If you

How about "System Description" in "Remote SNMP". I did a scan against a bunch of our Cisco Routers and it comes back with "Cisco IOS Software, 2800 Software (C2800.....)" point being you can tell that is a Cisco 2800 Router. I don't know if that is good enough or not. Maybe the Feature Request is to capture information off an HTTP page, kind of like how the XML doe

That maybe discoverable by checking the "Grab HTTP & FTP server banner" check box on the Additional Tab in Options. Try it out and let the forum know. -WS

Andrew, Thank you once again for your updates and features added. This is a fantastic software and we should all support it! Thanks, WindowsStar
Re: Feature Request - Remote Processes
10 years ago, by WindowsStar in Network Scanner Forum
Here is a work-around if this feature is not added. Just add a WMI with; Select Name from Win32_Process Where Name = 'Notepad.exe' Just change 'Notepad.exe' to whatever you like. -WS
Feature request: remote processes

I found something that would be neat to have added. You have, Remote Services, Remote File, etc. How about Remote Processes? I needed that one today. -WS

That is an amazing way to handle that. Many Thanks....WS

As always you Rock! I noticed I have a super weird funny typo in there "that will beaded to the end" should be "that will be added to the end". Phone spell check trying to help me out...how funny.
Feature request: reordering IP ranges
10 years ago, by WindowsStar in Network Scanner Forum
Hi, I use the + to add IP ranges a lot, I appreciate so much that you added that feature. I have another request for the Ranges. Will you make it so that you can re-order them? I know it seems trivial but I use the check box a lot to toggle them on/off and I like to keep active ranges available but would also like to have them in order. Currently have I have to wipe out the last 6 ranges t

@Bill I am not sure what you mean has too many problems. This is one of the best PING/Scanning programs that is FREE on the internet. It is so good I have made donations to support it. If you are new to the software please take a few days to get used to how it works, there are a lot of settings and some that are different from say Windows XP to Windows 7 (x86 vs x64). If you are trying to scan

Wouldn't that be in AD? So you can just open ADCU and search for the name?
Re: network scanner takes, newer Dell printers offline

Wow, I am having the same issue with C3765dcn MFP's. I have flashed the firmware, swapped boards, memory and it still does the same thing. I even changed out the switch it was connected to updating it to a much newer and better Cisco layer 3 switch. I have changed the patch cables etc. Nothing seems to fix it. Dell was on site and replaced the board but it did not fix the problem. Very strange. Ho

Noticed the banner ads and I am sure you had to do this to keep the project going and I really do understand. However is there a way you can offer NetScan without the banner for those of us who have donated? Thanks

One thing you can do with netscan is to look for open ports that are not normally open on your workstations. (i.e. 21, 23, 25, 80, 110, etc.)
Scanning for entries in user hives in registry

IMHO: I think this is a completely separate tool/software, that I would like to see developed. I like the idea and I can think of many uses. For things like this (in other words beyond the scope of the software) I have written CMD, VBScript or PowerShell Scripts that can do many extra things. An example: I have added items under the "Open Computer...". Currently I have items like

Re: Feature Request: UDP Port Scanning

Unfortunately it does not see the Rogue DHCP servers. I does see my real DHCP servers on Windows Server 2008 R2. The Rogue Servers (3 of them) were on a *IX box OS unknown, clever. -WS
Re: Feature Request: UDP Port Scanning

Thanks for all the extra information. The other day I found 3 Rogue DHCP servers on our network. I thought that DHCP might be the issues but all the utilities I used could not find or see any DHCP servers except for our REAL DHCP servers for some reason. I had another network guy help me and we used WireShark to finally discover why I was having DHCP issues; we found 3 DHCP servers and I was h
Feature Request: UDP Port Scanning

Andrew any possibility to have the option to scan UDP ports as well as the TCP ports. Maybe toggle it on or off? Thanks.

Maybe add another line below the ready | threads .. | scan with the last selection? Could be informational for; book marks, ip scan, etc. etc. much better than more information in the bar. Just my 2 cents. Edit: with the ability to turn it on or off (the added line of information that is).

Or, you could just add the WMI query in a VBScript. You can customize it anyway you like.
Logged on network users not displaying

You need to have a Created Admin Account or the Built-in Administrator account (disabled by default) set with the SAME password on all machines. Then use that account to scan the network. Make sure you start NetScan with the right mouse click and Run As Administrator. -WS
When Using the Scanner I get locked out.
10 years ago, by WindowsStar in Network Scanner Forum
Many Domain Accounts have the lock out feature enabled by default or are set by the Senior Administrator. This is normal and very common. If your Domain is using this or extra security you will need to have your Admin account excluded or have a special Admin account created for scanning the network. Or of course you could turn off the lock out feature, but I would not recommend that because your D

Network Scanner Behavior Win XP vs Win 7
10 years ago, by WindowsStar in Network Scanner Forum
Thanks for the reply. I know the settings are the same, I exported them from the Win XP machine and imported them to the Win 7 machine. Firewall....did not think of that. I will try disabling it and see what happens. Great idea. -WS
Network Scanner Behavior Win XP vs Win 7
10 years ago, by WindowsStar in Network Scanner Forum
Recently I upgraded my main computer from Windows XP (32bit) to Windows 7 (64bit). Both machines are up and running, both have the latest Network Scanner on them, both have the same settings. Scanning: 172.16.1.1 – 172.16.1.254/24 where my machines are display all the MAC addresses. Scanning: 172.16.1.1 – 172.22.1.254/24 different networks. On Windows XP this works correctly and all the MAC
