Re: Adding multiple users in credential manager

1 year ago, by Andrew in Network Scanner Forum

In XML files passwords are Base-64 encoded and encrypted by a XOR against the GUID associated with each item. Rather than recreating that, it would probably be easier and more effective if we add an import feature where multiple credentials can be loaded from a text file. Something like this: login1;password1;comment1 login2;password2;comment2 ... Is this what you are looking for?

Re: Moving XML with settings from an old free version to the latest

Yes, from v4.0.4 onwards new releases can be simply installed over, followed by a reboot.

Re: Moving XML with settings from an old free version to the latest

1 year ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk Forum

Yes, it would be fine to export everything to an XML file and then import it into the new version. Unfortunately, direct upgrade by simply installing the current version over that old version is not possible. So the best way to do it is: Backup your configuration to an XML file. If you have set Windows %TEMP% to a RAM disk, revert it to a temporary hard-disk location. Uninstall the old RAM

Re: Password required after hostname change

If you have both the management console (GUI) and monitoring service installed on the same computer, simply enter localhost as host name and a blank password. This should work unless you had set an access password earlier.

Re: Mounting two RAM disks at boot time

1 year ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk Forum

There are two disk types in the RAM Disk app: Boot-time disks, which are available immediately on system startup. To create a boot-time disk, choose Disk – Add Boot Disk in the main menu. Logon-time disks, which are available when a user logs on. Unless you have specific requirements for using logon-time disks, it is best to use boot-time disks. To create a logon-time disk, choose Disk – Add in

Re: Unattended installation

It's a Windows built-in message that pops up when the desk band is registered. Unfortunately this message cannot be suppressed as it is there specifically to avoid apps jamming themselves into the taskbar without permission from the user.

Re: Access to taskbar menu to display desktop graph in v5.2.2

Version 5.2.2 is over 10 years old and I am afraid it is not supported anymore. As a workaround, you can try resetting Windows icon cache as described in this article.

Re: Opening shares from Credential Manager

2 years ago, by Andrew in Network Scanner Forum

Any credentials added under the Credential Manager are used for scanning, i.e. enumerating shares and checking their status. When you open a share from the Network Scanner app, it simply launches Windows Explorer to open that share. Since Windows Explorer is unauthenticated, you see the credentials prompt. As far as I know there is no way to pass a user name and password to Windows Explorer

App randomly closes on macOS 12.2.1 - Fixed

The latest build from the 10th of March should no longer crash randomly. Please download the updated build and let us know how it performs for you.

Re: Program fails to load "CreateProcess failed; code 623. Illegal system DLL relocation"

2 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

That's really odd. I can only think of the relocation table that we strip from EXE files to reduce their size. This may cause issues when running NetWorx in a sandbox or similar isolated container. Kindly try the latest build with the relocation table intact and let me know if this works for you.

Re: App randomly closes on macOS

Sorry for the delays. We believe we have found and fixed what was causing this. Currently we are testing it. If it doesn't crash in another couple of days, we will publish the update.

Re: How to add a delay for a specific IP address range

2 years ago, by Andrew in Connection Emulator Forum

This should be pretty simple. Firstly set a latency to be emulated, e.g. 100ms each way: Then set up a filter that only applies to matching connections: Then set Source to Any IP address and destination to your IP address range: After that, ping an address within that range and an address outside of it.

Thank you for the suggestion. We have just added the support for a global hotkey to start/stop emulation. If you download and install the new build, you will see a new setting in View - Options:

Re: List remote shared folders with different user but same connection

2 years ago, by Andrew in Network Scanner Forum

Most likely it's because when you open that computer in Windows Explorer, you access it by name. Whereas Network Scanner accesses it by IP address. From the point of view of Windows SMB subsystem those are different connections, i.e. \\MYSERVER and \\1.2.3.4 are different connections even if MYSERVER resolves to 1.2.3.4. If you don't want to enter your access credentials in Network Scanner, try

Re: Cloning a virtual machine to a RAM drive

I am afraid we can't help with ImDisk, it's not our product. However, if a similar issue happens with our RAM Disk, it's probably because VMware uses Volume Shadow Copy (VSS), which doesn't work on standalone volumes. I recommend one of these options as a workaround: Shutdown the VM and copy it to the RAM disk using regular file copy; or In the RAM disk properties tick the Hard Disk Emulati

Re: Enabled LAN filter counts traffic to NAS

2 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

It's probably something to do with timing and startup sequence. Previously NetWorx would start at boot and you would launch VPN later. Now you likely updated and re-launched NetWorx with VPN already connected, so it's counted. A simple reboot may well fix that. In general it's a little tricky with VPN clients. Sometimes their traffic is recorded and sometimes it's not, depending on how a VPN cl

Re: App randomly closes on macOS

2 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

I can confirm we were able to reproduce this issue. NetWorx randomly crashes on macOS 12.2.1 within minutes to hours when monitoring apps. It is using undocumented Apple's private framework, so this may take some time to investigate. I will post an update here once we have found a solution. Regarding starting NetWorx automatically, we will later add a setting for this into the app itself. At th

Re: App randomly closes on macOS

It's probably a bug. Please confirm which monitoring mode you are using: adapter or applications, as shown below? These two options use different data collection methods, so we will know where to look for the bug.

Re: Adding a delay in peer-to-peer games

2 years ago, by Andrew in Connection Emulator Forum

We wouldn't be able to help you with this as online games are not our area of expertise. Instead of the Connection Emulator software, I could recommend taking a look at our NetGenius product. It will let you set a delay (also know as latency or ping time) on any app or game. Then you can tweak the delays and pick what works for you. You can try setting a delay on your browser and see how it cha

Re: How to create a lag for a certain amount of time

2 years ago, by Andrew in Connection Emulator Forum

It really depends on what you mean by 'my network'. If you want to add latency to any connection from and to your computer, NetGenius allows you to set that. If you want to add latency to any connection from and to all of your devices, that's not really possible without tinkering with your router and using a custom firmware with it.

Re: Does RAM Disk persist between rebooting?

2 years ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk Forum

You can create both a volatile RAM disk or a persistent RAM disk. The latter requires an image file to be created where the contents of the disk will be kept between reboots. Please see this article for details: How to create persistent RAM disks with contents preserved between sessions. I am not sure why you want to persist a few seconds of video and audio though. After a reboot you could simp

Re: Enabled LAN filter counts traffic to NAS

Are you saying it crashes after running after a few seconds? That's odd. Do you know what version you had installed before this (that did not crash)?

Re: How to create a lag for a certain amount of time

2 years ago, by Andrew in Connection Emulator Forum

Take a look at our product called NetGenius. It will let you set a delay (also know as latency or ping time) on any app or game. Then you can tweak the delays and pick what works for you. A few seconds would be too much though, more likely something in the range of 50-500ms. You can try setting a delay on your browser and see how it changes ping time in this speed test.

Re: Enabled LAN filter counts traffic to NAS

2 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

Normally when the "Ignore local traffic" option is ticked, it will disregard any traffic between a set of local IP addresses. There is a chance that your PC communicates with the NAS over routable IPv6 addresses assigned by the ISP. For example, if we try to ping our local NAS here, it will print: ping nas Pinging NAS.local [2001:db8:...] with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 2001:

Re: Feature request: Swap upload and download speeds in deskband

2 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

NetGenius is a much newer product in which we implemented a more intuitive design: the upload speed is above (meaning "up" and going away) while the download speed is below (meaning "down" and coming towards). NetWorx was created 20 years ago, so its interface may appear less intuitive. The download speed was placed above the upload because normally its values are much highe

Re: Network traffic discrepancy between NetWorx and NetGenius

2 years ago, by Andrew in NetGenius Forum

It's okay to use NetWorx and NetGenius together, but make sure the Ignore LAN traffic option is not enabled in NetWorx. It uses a monitoring method similar to that in NetGenius, so they may conflict occasionally.

Re: VPN with other applications: transfer counted twice

2 years ago, by Andrew in NetGenius Forum

You should be able to disregard the traffic of NordVPN by choosing All processes then selecting NordVPN processes and setting their status to Skipped. Then NetGenius will not take into account any traffic from these processes and hopefully solve the double-counting.

Re: WAN Interface (BH)

NDISWAN interfaces are used internally by Windows when connecting to a WAN link like dial-up or ISDN. They are not used much these days and the most recent releases of Bandwidth Manager do not display these adapters.
