Thread scan stuck: diagnostics and solutions

4 months ago, by WindowsStar in Network Scanner Forum

Good Morning, Many times I scan a network and NetScan gets stuck with something like "Threads 62 Devices 62 /62" and never continues. I assume it is stuck trying to gather the information I have requested but cannot for some reason. I have let the software run all day and it will stay stuck. If I stop the scan and then force the Threads to end the software will stay stuck on 62 thre

@bizmarkie Sorry if it seemed like I was ganging up on you, that was not my intent. The intent was to help resolve the problem. I have been in the computer industry for more time than I care to admit and every time I had seen something like this in the past it was video card related or too high a percentage of CPU usage time. But as always Andrew knew something we didn't was able to track it to

Re: Slow column resizing

That looks like a slow video card to me. I have seen this with other software many times. Try updating the video driver to the latest version, sometimes that makes a difference. If not check to see if your machine itself has too much running at the same time. I know many applications put software in the system tray to launch faster or give you quick access to settings, but 90% of the time that is

Feature request: add script to Open Device menu

7 months ago, by WindowsStar in Network Scanner Forum

Good Morning, I would like to request a feature. Under Options | Remote Scripting .. or Remote PowerShell would you add a second check box. This second check box would add the script to "Open Device..." fly-out menu" like the Options | Program Options | Applications {tab} (Doesn't have to add it here, just making is an option on the "Open Device..." fly-out menu&qu

Re: "Could not register tab" error message

Yes, deleting the XML file does fix the issue, however I have an extremely complex XML file. Is there any way to have the software repair the XML file or update it without losing the settings?

I think deleting the XML file resolves the problem. I will try that at work ... tomorrow. -WS

"Could not register tab" error message

9 months ago, by WindowsStar in Network Scanner Forum

Today, we purchased a license for this software to use the v7 code. (I have supported this software for a very long time and now that we are using it at work all the time we need to pay for it) When we went from v6.2.1 to v7.0.5 using the same XML config file, we now get the "Could not register tab. Error 0." error pop-up message when starting the scan. Any ideas? As always, g

Re: Suggestion: Thread Time-Out Option

10 months ago, by WindowsStar in Network Scanner Forum

Thank you. I guess I misunderstood that was how that works and/or did not know the underlying operation. Somehow I was thinking this was how much time you wanted to wait to start the threads, thinking run-time meaning start, not how long. Now that you have pointed it out I get it "run time" how long. Looked at that so long ago, it stuck in my mind incorrectly. Thanks as always and glad

Suggestion: Thread Time-Out Option

10 months ago, by WindowsStar in Network Scanner Forum

Good Morning. I would like to suggest adding a time-out option for the threads gathering all the information. I left NetScan running overnight to do a lot of work gathering a lot of information, but every time I run it, it never seems to finish and is stuck on a few last threads. I assume this is because NetScan thinks eventually it will get the information? It would be nice to have an option

This happens to me all the time. I run NetScan from several shares I sometimes I forget the columns. Could you just add the MAXCOLS value in the GUI in Options? -WS

You may have your thread set to 400 and it stops until the software can resolve the treads to move on. Just a thought. -WS

Threading issues in latest versions

1 year ago, by WindowsStar in Network Scanner Forum

Andrew, We have noticed since around version 6.1.1 or so and up to 6.1.4 that the threads never seem to finish in the scan. If you press the Force Stop nothing happens the program just hangs until you end it with Task Manager. I have used the software long enough that I have seen this before especially when the workstation has been powered on for more than a month without rebooting, or if you

Hummm, I wasn't talking using this setting for ranges because you are right you cannot figure out what the network is. But.... Doesn't the software know network and broadcast because of the CIDR notation? Example: Enter: 10.32.8.9 /24 and it (the software) knows the range is 10.32.8.0 to 10.32.8.255 network is the first the last is the broadcast. Enter: 10.32.4.89 /27 and it (the s

Re: Suggestion: add checkbox "Ping network addresses (i.e. x.x.x.0)"

Andrew, The above is not working well. Example: I have to add *.*.*.32 for a /28 network but then later when I scan a /24 network I am skipping the .32 address on that /24 network. I have to go remove the *.*.*.32 and if I forget then I am missing one address or in my case lots of addresses on /25 /26 /27 /28 networks with all the added exceptions. ... then on a /23 network it skips the *.

Re: Suggestion: extend the reading time of pop-up information

I will keep an eye on it. I may have figure out the HTML one. I noticed that if I hover an item that has ... after it but only one or two characters are missing it will NOT pop-up. If I move column over a bit I can see the last two characters or if I move it back a bit and cannot see say four letters then it does the pop-up. Maybe the HTML area is getting messed up because of the periods in the I

Re: Suggestion: add checkbox "Ping network addresses (i.e. x.x.x.0)"

Andrew, Thanks, great idea, and I understand are saying no need for it especially if all networks are /24 or /16, however since I am using CIDR on (/23 /24 /25 /26 /27 /28) the network address is not always .0 sometimes it is x.x.x.64 or x.x.x.96 etc. depending on the network. I was hoping the check box would look at the CIDR information and ignore the network magically. Thanks for a quic
