Re: How to copy RAM disk image to a backup server

3 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

As mentioned earlier, I don't recommend that you use an image file in this setup. It's an extra layer of complexity and an extra potential failure point. For example, if you start copying the image from the hot server to the NAS while the image is being written into, the resulting file will likely to be damaged (and this is probably the reason why you get that error). In my opinion, you shouldn

Re: How to add custom IP address range

3 years ago, by Ann in WiFi Guard Forum

You can configure a custom IP range for scanning on the Advanced tab in Settings, as shown in the screen shot below. Enter your range as 192.168.1.1-192.168.3.255, and WiFi Guard should be able to scan all those IP addresses. Please note that if you have a router between those subnets, WiFi Guard will be unable to detect devices in other subnets or track their MAC addresses, because the ARP tra

Re: How to copy RAM disk image to a backup server

3 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

Generally, having a RAM disk image in a network folder is not supported. The reason for it is that the RAM Disk software is initialised early in system boot, before the network becomes available. Another issue here is that if for some reason the image gets partially written or otherwise damaged, you will not be able to load its data to either server. I am not entirely certain what you are tryin

Re: How to change installer destination location when installing via CMD

3 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

Yes, you can use the /DIR parameter for that. All command line parameters of Inno Setup are supported. Quote /DIR="x:\dirname" Overrides the default directory name displayed on the Select Destination Location wizard page. A fully qualified pathname must be specified.

Re: Browser cache relocation for a different profile

I believe there is individual cache in each profile. In this case you can use the --disk-cache-dir (assuming you are using Chrome) to redirect cache for all profiles. How to relocate Google Chrome cache The default location of Chrome cache is C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Cache , which can be changed by adding a few parameters. For that, right-cl

Re: Errors when loading config or saving settings at launching or closing the app

To fix these errors, simply close the Network Scanner and then delete the damaged configuration file in C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\SoftPerfect Network Scanner\netscan.xml After that, start the application again and everything should work well.

Re: Topology mapper and SSH client integration

I am afraid topology discovery is not currently on our to-do list. There is a number of other applications that do that. However, integration of SSH clients and other third-party applications has been available in our Network Scanner for a long time. See Options - Applications tab:

Re: File date and time updates

3 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

RAM Disk implements a simple block storage, it can't really affect what happens to file dates. What you have encountered is a Windows feature known as tunnelling. When a name is removed from a directory (rename or delete), its short/long name pair and its creation time are saved in a cache, keyed by the name that was removed. When a name is added to a directory (rename or create), the cache is

Re: Command in .bat file does not return

3 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

Since the built-in image saving is not suitable for your purposes, I would recommend using a file-level backup program (e.g. an archiver like 7Z) to compress everything on the RAM disk into a single container. The added advantage of this method is that you could have incremental backups, and the files can be extracted from the archive at any time.

Re: Command in .bat file does not return

3 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

I am not entirely sure why the BAT file does not return, but most likely this happens because Windows 10 has tighter security, and BAT files run by Windows Scheduler don't have access to the desktop where the RAM Disk application is running. Also, I am curious why you are using a BAT file for backups when RAM Disk offers direct functionality? There is a setting that allows you to back up RAM di

Re: Hide/show inactive devices

It is possible to add it, but the same outcome can already be achieved with a filter, like "Response Time Not Empty". As inactive devices have a blank response time, such filter will hide them.

Re: Suggestion: Limit the quantity of email notifications

3 years ago, by Ann in WiFi Guard Forum

WiFi Guard will not send identical e-mails, but if the list of detected devices changes, new e-mails will still be sent. For example, if WiFi Guard finds an unknown device AABBCCDDEEFF, it sends an e-mail. If it finds the same unknown device again, it will not send more e-mails about it (until you restart the application). However, if any other devices come or go, the list of detected devices

Re: Fully volatile system with boot from a RAM disk

3 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

No, that is not possible with our RAM Disk. I don't think it's possible even in theory, as in your scenario all RAM would be wiped in the last step (USB removed and reboot to RAM disk) when BIOS does standard memory testing. You may be better off using software like VeraCrypt to simply encrypt everything for privacy and security.

Re: NetWorx Speed Meter vs SpeedTest.net

3 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

Unfortunately, it is hard to tell in such cases. I just did one test in Speed Meter and another one in speedtest.net, and their results were very similar, see below. I guess the difference you saw could be due to a temporary congestion, or from multi-vs-single connection, as by default speedtest.net does multiconnection whereas NetWorx uses a single connection.

Re: MacOS app doesn't appear after it has been opened

3 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

NetWorx should work on MacOS 11.x or, any older or newer version. It is worth mentioning though that when you open NetWorx, it does not display any window of user interface. Instead, being a service app, it creates an icon in the menu bar as shown in the screen shot below. Please check if there is an icon there after you open NetWorx as that's how you can access NetWorx functions.

Re: "Failed to setup system event" error when starting emulation

Re: Deleting and recreating the Temp folder automatically

3 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

Is there a particular reason why you want to create a temporary folder in a non-volatile image file and then automatically delete it each time? RAM disk .img files are used for non-volatile (persistent) data, but in this case the data is purposefully kept instead of being automatically deleted. So the scenario you are asking about, where a folder is created for permanent data storage and yet ge

Re: Missing Router SNMP MIB Query option in Lookup Methods

It looks like a config upgrade issue. We were unable to reproduce it, but there are two ways to fix it. Either of these two methods should make all four MAC-address resolution settings reappear in the list: ARP query, NetBios query, WMI query, and Router SNMP MIB query. If you are okay with losing your current configuration and starting over, simply choose File - Current Config - Reset to Defa

Re: "Browse For Folder" dialog doesn't show RAM disk in the directory list

3 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

Please download and try this updated Cache Relocator zip file. It should default to "This PC" rather than "Desktop" when browsing for folders, and display all available drives. Another reason for this problem may be due to a Windows peculiarity: if there are too many files/folders/icons on the Desktop, the "Browse for Folder" Windows dialog can't handle it all. It

Re: Mounting RAM disk to a directory instead of a drive letter

3 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

It is not supported directly, i.e. you can't assign a RAM disk to a folder from within the product. However, for your use case you could use symbolic links, with which any directory could be mapped to a RAM disk. For example, you have your RAM disk at R:\ and the folder you want to point to RAM disk is C:\some\folder. Simply open a command prompt as admin and type: MKLINK /D C:\some\folder R

Re: Border frame around taskbar extension

Sorry, we have been unable to reproduce this issue. After running NetGenius taskbar extension for 1 hour, there was no still frame around it. Re: High reads and writes on the real physical disk

3 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

That is because you created and mounted a disk image, not a RAM disk. A disk image is basically a simple container associated with a drive letter. It lets you place your files there and later use that image with a RAM disk. In other words, when you copy files to your image, they go into that container sitting on your hard drive (physical disk). For using a disk in RAM (aka RAM disk), please se

Re: RAM disk doesn't mount when image file is on a removable drive

3 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

This is likely due to the order in which Windows Mount Manager initialises the connected devices. The RAM Disk driver starts before any portable devices are mounted, so the image file is simply not found at that point of the system startup. You could either move the image file to non-removable storage, or try using a logon-time RAM disk. Logon-time RAM disks are mounted upon user logon, at whic
