Re: Setting up a transparent bridge

3 years ago, by Ann in Bandwidth Manager Forum

It is hard to tell how it will work in your network with multiple VLANs. The bridging simply switches two NICs to promiscuous mode and follows this procedure: When BM receives a packet on NIC 1, it checks the destination MAC address. If the MAC address belongs to NIC 1, the packet is forwarded to the stack. If it does not, the packet is transmitted unchanged via NIC 2. A similar thing happens

Re: How to stop "the app you're trying to install isn't a Microsoft-verified app" pop-up

3 years ago, by Ann in WiFi Guard Forum

"The app you're trying to install isn't a Microsoft-verified app" pop-up warning appears when a user downloads and tries to install an application from somewhere other than Microsoft Store. In Windows 10, Microsoft introduced a new setting that restricts users to installing applications exclusively from Microsoft Store. To get around this limitation, you can try one of the solutions belo

Re: How to resize and change colors of the tray graph

3 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

If you are referring to the graph in the notification area, next to the clock, like this: then to resize the graph, you may need to unlock your Windows taskbar first. Simply right-click an empty space on the taskbar and untick the Lock the taskbar menu item. Then resize the graph and lock the taskbar again. You can also turn the whole graph on and off by right-clicking the taskbar and choos

Re: Traffic is not displayed by IP

3 years ago, by Ann in Bandwidth Manager Forum

I am not quite sure what you mean by saying "it is not captured". Your screenshot shows some data recorded today. The reason traffic is not displayed by IP is because it's a non-tracking mode. See Rule Properties - Advanced - Tracking Mode. By the way, you also appear to have a large number of duplicate rules. There is no point in doing that, and it reduces performance.

Re: "Failed to setup system event" error when starting emulation

3 years ago, by Ann in Connection Emulator Forum

It looks like you still have some left-overs from an older version on your computer. Try this: completely uninstall the Connection Emualtor application and reboot, then install the latest version of the Connection Emualtor again. Everything should work well after that.

Thank you for your feedback. It is nice to hear that you find WiFi Guard useful. If you have any ideas/suggestions on how we can make it even better and more useful - please feel free to share.

Re: How to suppress security alerts during a scan

3 years ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum

That is most likely a coincidence. Intrusion detection systems (IDS) are supposed to detect scanning no matter which application is used. You can try these (in order of relevance): In Options on the General tab enable the Scan in random order option. This will scan devices and ports in random order, and may help to avoid triggering some IDS. Use fewer threads. Set the Maximum threads paramet

Re: How to suppress security alerts during a scan

3 years ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum

It is not very clear what you mean. The Network Scanner itself doesn't display any security alerts as such. If some of your other software does that (like an IDS), it's exactly what they are supposed to do, i.e. detect a scan.

Re: Not seeing drive R: after RAM Disk installation

3 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

You are not seeing the newly created R drive because you have chosen the RAW option in the RAM disk settings. RAW means no file system. You should select a file system, for example NTFS or exFAT.

Re: How to block everything except for white-listed applications

3 years ago, by Ann in NetGenius Forum

I am afraid you are mistaken: blocking a directory blocks everything inside it, including what's in its nested folders. If you wish, you can block the entire system drive and then manually unblock the applications you trust. For example: Block the whole disk C:\ Switch the list display mode from Online to All. Launch the application you want to unblock - it should appear in the list. Righ

Re: Per-IP logging removal

3 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

I am afraid that is the case. We rarely remove features from our products, except where the functionality has become obsolete or impossible to maintain. In this case, NetWorx is nearly 20 years old, and in that time operating systems, Internet speeds and surrounding applications changed dramatically, severely affecting the efficiency of IP address logging. The removal of the functionality rela

Re: Software tool for logging Internet dropouts

3 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

Yes, our NetWorx application has the Connection Monitor feature designed to do exactly that. It however will not detect drop outs that last less than 1 minute. If you want to record short drop outs as well, you would need a graphical ping monitor. For example, there is another company by the name of NetSan Tools that has a tool like that.

Re: Shared folders names in exported CSV file

3 years ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum

It is hard to tell why you don't see them. I have just checked this, and the shared folders are correctly displayed in the Shared Resources column, as shown in the screen shot below. Perhaps you didn't notice that all shared folders were placed in one cell? CSV format has one item per row, so the list of shares is displayed as comma-separated line.

Re: Friendly name somehow 'moved' to a wrong device

3 years ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum

IP addresses are dynamic in nature. If you assign an IP address to a WOL entry, it may soon become invalid due to that IP address used by some other device. If however your IP addresses are static, you can simply enter the IP addresses as friendly names, if that's what you want to see.

Re: Friendly name somehow 'moved' to a wrong device

3 years ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum

Device host name is retrieved from each device automatically, while the friendly name is assigned to it manually. The friendly names feature allows network administrators to assign custom names to devices, to aid device identification and be user-friendly (hence they are called 'friendly'). If a device has a friendly name, this means that you (or someone else using the same NetScanner) added it

Re: Driver version hasn't changed after update

3 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

There are two possible situations that could lead to this issue: The driver version number was incorrect during the first few days after the release of 4.1.0. If you happened to download RAM Disk during those days, simply try downloading the latest build again and installing it over. The driver can only be updated after a reboot, so if you hadn't rebooted yet, the driver will still be showing t

Re: Daily usage synchronization

3 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

Normally, NetWorx syncs the usage every 60 seconds. But if some computers do not see others, it is probably a firewall issue. You can try turning off any firewalls you have and see if that helps. Also, note that all the computers must be in the same subnet for the synchronization to work. Alternatively, you could try NetGenius and see if it suits your setup better. With NetGenius, you can monit

Re: Same user is shown connected multiple times

3 years ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum

There is no single 100% working method. See for example this discussion on WMI. Network Scanner has a couple more features that can extract logged on users. These are in Options - Remote Scripting. One enumerates who is running explorer.exe, and the other extracts data from Win32_LogonSessions. Please check the 'User logon time' and 'Full logged name' scripts. They actually do more than just li

Re: Same user is shown connected multiple times

3 years ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum

Network Scanner uses several methods to retrieve the list of current logged-on users, in this sequence: Calling a Windows function NetWkstaUserEnum. It lists information about all users currently logged on to the workstation. This list includes interactive, service and batch logons. If the above fails, a NetBIOS request is sent and logged-on user name is extracted from the response. This is sim

Re: Startup options for a RAM disk with a very large image

3 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

There is a couple of things you can do: If you are not using the latest version of the RAM Disk (4.1), I recommend upgrading to it. The latest version creates image files as sparse files, which allows more efficient storage and faster reading. For example, if on your 160 GB image only 50% of space is actually used, it will take ~80 GB on the SSD and will load faster. You may need to re-create

Re: Upload figures in popup menu

3 years ago, by Ann in NetWorx Forum

Thank you for reporting this issue. It is not the intended behaviour: the NetWorx popup is supposed to show downloads, uploads, and also their sum. It looks like Microsoft has recently restricted the number of lines that can be displayed in a notification, thus cutting off the upload numbers and the total. To fix this, we implemented a custom popup instead, as shown below. Please download and i

Re: Size of Taskbar Extension graph in vertical mode

3 years ago, by Ann in NetGenius Forum

Thank you for reporting this issue. Vertical taskbar is a little tricky to deal with, but I think we have just fixed it. Please download the latest build, install over and reboot. You may need to unlock the taskbar, shrink the NetGenius extension, and then lock the taskbar again.

Re: Server 2019 Core issue with .dll not found

3 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

Thank you for reporting this issue. It looks like the latest release introduced a Direct2D dependency, which is used for rendering vector icons and images in the application. We have just updated the RAM Disk package: now, if Direct2D is not found, it will fall back to software rendering. To update, please follow these steps: Remove these keys from the registry (with regedit.exe), to ensure

Re: Advantages of SoftPerfect RAM Disk

3 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

Being RAMdisk tools, SoftPerfect RAM Disk and IMDisk naturally have similar functionality. However, in an application like RAMdisk, it is not the number of features that is important, but rather its performance and stability of operation. We regularly receive feedback form users saying that, after trying a few different RAMdisk apps, they found ours works best for them, that it is the fastest a

Re: Asterisks in a scheduled task output of a licensed copy

3 years ago, by Ann in Network Scanner Forum

It is most likely that the application can't find its licence information because the Task Scheduler runs it under a different user. To resolve this, change the scheduled task to run under the same user account where you normally use it. Alternatively, you can download the portable version of the Network Scanner and place it in a separate folder. After that, go to menu Help - Enter Licence Key

Re: Incorrect password for localhost

3 years ago, by Ann in NetGenius Forum

That is very strange. You can try deleting your device from NetGenius's view and then re-adding it by clicking Connect to. Enter localhost for name and a blank password. If that doesn't help, here is how to recover the password: Download SQLiteSpy Launch it and load the NetGenius database file located in %PROGRAMDATA%\SoftPerfect\NetGenius Run the following query in SQLiteSpy: SELECT PARAM

Re: macOS errors when trying to export to CSV or XML file

3 years ago, by Ann in WiFi Guard Forum

We have checked WiFi Guard for macOS - AppStore build, and can confirm the issue with exports. It is related to Apple's app sandboxing and how WiFi Guard processes user-selected file names. We will fix it today, but Apple may take a few days to update the application file in its AppStore. In the meantime, you can use this simple workaround: add the extension when typing the export file name

Re: macOS errors when trying to export to CSV or XML file

3 years ago, by Ann in WiFi Guard Forum

Thank you for reporting this issue. Are you using WiFi Guard from the AppStore or from our web-site? They are a bit different: the AppStore version runs in a macOS sandbox that may limit its ability to write to external files. Also, what version of macOS are you using?

Re: Persistent RAM disk referencing pre-existing files on the hard drive

3 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

It is impossible to have a RAM disk with some files appearing on it after startup without copying them there first from somewhere else. RAM disks reside in RAM (obviously), and therefore cannot themselves store any data between shutdowns. The only way to have any pre-existing data on a RAM disk is to copy it there from some persistent storage like an image file stored on a hard drive. Likewise

Re: How to move multiple Chrome profiles to RAM disk

3 years ago, by Ann in RAM Disk Forum

Right-click on the Start menu item or the icon, Choose Properties, Open the Shortcut tab, Copy the line of code from the above example into the Target field, making sure to use the correct path to chrome.exe (wherever it is installed in your system) and the correct RAM Disk letter (the one you chose for your RAM disk).
