Re: Moving XML with settings from an old free version to the latest

1 year ago, by radish in RAM Disk Forum

Thanks for the response Andrew. When I went to install the latest version over the old version I did get an alert saying that I had to uninstall the old version first. All went smoothly and configured using XML fine, though I did change to exFAT as advised. However, for future reference: QuoteAndrew Unfortunately, direct upgrade by simply installing the current version over that old version is

Moving XML with settings from an old free version to the latest

I have been using SoftPerfect Ramdisk for years and stuck with the last freeware version 3.4.8. Though I don't need a new version I decided to purchase the latest version as a way of saying thank you for excellent software. However, I have one question: is it okay to import saved (XML) settings for a RAM disk from version 3.4.8 into version 4.3.2 (i.e. the current latest version)? I do know

Re: How to move Windows Temp files to RAM disk - Using batch files

I would suggest reading this old thread on how to use batch files to redirect TEMP/TMP content to a RAMdisk. It's a long thread, but well worth the read.

Okay, Andrew. Thanks for listening and taking on board some of what I was saying. Will look forward to the new release.

Okay, Andrew, thanks for the response. For some reason, following your image above, my "Current session" option was greyed-out. In any case I just clicked the main "Reset" button only to find that all my data vanished. Ah, well . . . Now that I've discovered how it hangs together a bit more I would suppose that I would add to my request that the session data, as displayed

Improvement suggestion: Make "Reset Graph" reset totals

Networx 5.5.4 64-bit Portable. Hi, I am referring to the NetWorx graph that is displayed like this: It is split into two halves. A right-side pane that shows "All Connections" information and a left-side pane that shows the current upload and download rate. If I right click on the graph and select the "Reset Graph" option then what happens is that the current up

Downloaded and tried the latest build. That's it! Excellent! Thanks very much, Andrew.

Thanks very much Andrew - better informed now. However, I couldn't find how to display the graph in the system tray (your first illustration). I searched and searched but I just couldn't find it. Frustrating! Then I went to the NetWorx Online Manual and found out this is only available for the installed version, I use the portable. Ah, well. I did find out how to get the the "NetWorx (A

Okay, thanks very much for the clarification, Andrew. Starting to understand a bit how and when the ramdisk gets created.

Suggestion: Make Up/Down rates as persistent display

7 years ago, by radish in NetWorx Forum

Firstly, thanks for Networx. Great little program that I've used for some time now. As things stand just now if I want to see my current transfer rate DL and UL there are two ways I can do that (provided the appropriate settings are made in Networx settings): (1) I can click on the Networx tray icon and a notification bubble appears displaying the rates. (2) I can hover the mouse over the

Re: Folders and subfolders

Hi Jose, I just thought of another way of doing this. One of the problems with the batch described above is that if you the timing is wrong then the folders might never be created before the batch exits. -n= is a potential failure point for the script. The following batch gets round this as it isn't reliant on the user getting the timing right - the script keeps running until it can create the

Re: Folders and subfolders

Hi Jose, You can use a batch file to achieve this. For example the following should work: :: This Batch File Creates Sub-Folders in a Ramdisk ping -n 2 127.0.0.1 >NUL mkdir w:\Folder\Sub-Folder\Sub-Sub-Folder mkdir "w:\Folder Names\With Spaces\In Them" pause exit To explain what that would do: Line 1 This is just a "remark line" that you can read in the batc

Okay, thanks for the quick response, Andrew. Think this kind of information would make for a good 'chapter' in the user manual.

Re: How to install a new version replacing an older version

Okay Andrew, thanks very much for the quick response. I had one issue with the instructions, "Backup your configuration to a XML file." Am I correct in thinking the following: (1) To create such an XML file from the ramdisk control window go (Menu) File > Export Disks and save off an XML file via that routine. (2) Once the the new version of the ramdisk is installed, go File >

How to install a new version replacing an older version

7 years ago, by radish in RAM Disk Forum

Hi, I downloaded the latest version of the SoftPerfect RAMdisk. I already have an old version installed so the new version will replace the old version. My question is when I want to upgrade to the new version what do I have to do: (1) Uninstall the old version first, then install the new version? (2) Just install the new version over the top of the old version? Also, if this is how to do i

Re: RAM Disk contents advice: what to put inside / when to save it

Hello Jose, Sorry but I don't know the answer to your question. I would think that if you launch an instance of Word via clicking on a doc then any temp files will be placed according to your bat file settings (provided you've launched Word via the batch in the first instance) - but in saying that I am totally, absolutely only guessing. Only way to be sure is to experiment with it yourself and

In step 8 of my instuctions on how to deal with the Firefox cache I wrote: Quoteradish It won't be recreated because the data is now being written to the ramdisk. I made a mistake there. The "cache2" folder will be recreated. However, nothing will be written into it - the cache is now being written to the ramdisk. Just to clear up any misunderstanding.

Thanks for the thanks, Jose - appreciated. Glad you find the information helpful though, alas, I have to admit I got it myself from elsewhere (mentioned below) but then how else do we learn. I have to say that I don't know if it will work on Windows 10 (I have Windows 7). Obviously you would need to test it out for yourself on Windows 10 (and report the results of your test back into this forum to

Hi Jose, I use a ram disk for %TEMP% and %TMP% files too but I use it selectively on a per program basis using variations of the following batch file script (for example): set TEMP=W:\TEMP set TMP=W:\TMP start "" "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\OUTLOOK.EXE" exit The above would launch Microsoft Office Outlook and have it write its temporary files
