Not really. We use the NetWkstaGetInfo call, which returns a structure called WKSTA_INFO_100. This structure contains the major and minor version of the OS, for example 6.1, which can be a number of OSs built on the same kernel. As you can see here Windows NT 6.1 can be Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Home Server 2011.

Thank you for reporting. Fixed in this build.
Re: Feature suggestion: separate deskband for LAN traffic
10 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum
We don't currently consider this feature, as most users simply want to disregard LAN traffic because it's unmetered and isn't paid for. If you want to monitor both separately, I'd recommend to have two portable copies of NetWorx, one of which monitors the Internet traffic while the other one does LAN.
Re: Shares-filters in command line
10 years ago, by Andrew in Network Scanner Forum
Unfortunately at the moment any filters are purely interactive. A saved filter doesn't apply when command line parameters are used. I guess it could be useful to be able to filter scan results prior to export, I'll think how to implement it nicely.
Re: Suggestion: add checkbox "Ping network addresses (i.e. x.x.x.0)"
10 years ago, by Andrew in Network Scanner Forum
I took the liberty to combine the two options into one, as typically a user wants to ignore both. I hope that's sensible and works well. The new build is here. If given a CIDR notation, the app calculates NA and BA from that IP address and mask. If given a range notation, the app calculates NA and BA from local adapters IP settings.

QuoteMarkIs this particularly unusual for a router, or any UPnP device? Just curious. It's generally unusual. It'd be understandable if the device chose a random port on startup, but I don't have any idea why the engineers made it change at runtime at a seemingly random moments.

QuotePraxis Can you suppress checking UPNP when settings are All + Ignore local? Done in the latest build.
Re: Weird behaviour: right click menu shows at Windows startup
10 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum
Looks like you have more than one startup shortcut created. The first one launches NetWorx, the second one shows up the menu, because NetWorx intercepts an attempt to launch it again. You can use the Autoruns utility to check where it starts from and remove the extra entry.

It won't return The issue was that the router at some point decided to listen for UPnP requests on a different port, while NetWorx only requested router's configuration on startup. Now it does it so periodically, so even if the port changes, everything should keep working.
Re: Suggestion: add checkbox "Ping network addresses (i.e. x.x.x.0)"

I guess the question is how to calculate those. Let's assume we scan a random range of 1.2.3.4-5.6.7.8. As this is a range, we cannot reliably determine the network address and the broadcast address (NA and BA), right? In a local subnet, it's pretty easy to extract this information from a network adapter's settings. Say, if our computer's address 192.168.0.50 and the subnet mask is 255.255.255.

Thank for the explanation. I'll see if we can add a choice of how to compute the average in the next release. In the meantime, I'd recommend to read the charts as the chart's lines represent momentary speed at any point within the last 30 seconds.

The quota isn't probably something you want to see all the time, so there's no plan to implement it in a desk band. However there's a couple of tricks you can use to quickly access it: In the hidden settings change the following option: Assign a hotkey to open the Usage dialog and you can have the quota displayed with just one key:

Re: Usage report inconsistencies

QuoteRod I have recently started to use the Report facility in Networx but I have noticed that the usage in a daily Report is not consistent with that in the "Per Day" usage tab. Do the usage stats in the Report ignore unmetered hours in the same way as "Per Day" usage does or is the Report measuring something else? Indeed any automatic report erroneously included ignored

Added in this build. See under Actions in the main menu. This version also adds a scan comparison tool:

I guess that's fine if it only occurs occasionally. Unfortunately I can't track it down if it's not reliably reproducible.
Re: Adding Connection Monitor Log to the automatic reports
10 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum
Are you saying you want the Connection Log e-mailed periodically? If so, I'm afraid there isn't much use for this feature.
Re: Comparing scan results between sessions

For this specific task there is way to do it with our Network Scanner too, provided you saved the result from the last week: Load the scan done last week saved to an XML file. Choose Actions - Rescan All Displayed Computers from the main menu. You can also then choose Actions - Rescan Previously Undiscovered Computers to reveal any new computers. Having said that, I think it could be a good a

It looks like in some cases PowerShell wants a fully qualified path to PSCredential, i.e. System.Management.Automation.PSCredential. Try this build and let me know if it works.
Re: Suggestion: add checkbox "Ping network addresses (i.e. x.x.x.0)"

The Ping broadcast addresses option exists historically, but there's really no point to add a separate one for a zero-ending address. You can simply use the Options > Ignored IP Addresses feature:

This part of the code hasn't changed in 3 years or so, which means that's how the average speed has been calculated for a while. What version did upgrade from?
Re: How can I isolate network usage by IP address?
10 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum
Alternatively, if you only need to record your usage at home and exclude work usage, you could simply select the networks where the monitoring is enabled. This can be done by clicking Networks in the Main tab of NetWorx settings.
Re: Suggestion: extend the reading time of pop-up information

That probably happens because some control characters (with ASCII codes <32) are present in the HTML. I have done a couple of fixes to strip any control characters and to handle UTF-8 and UTF-16 server responses correctly. Try this build and let me know how it works.

Just choose to monitor All Connections. This will sum up information from all available adapters (though this may be an issue if there are also some irrelevant virtual adapters present).
Re: Lost NetWorx data on upgrade to 5.5.2
10 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum
Unfortunately this DB file only contained one day's records and it looks like the old one was somehow deleted, so NetWorx had to recreate it. Some users lose their data by uninstalling the old version first, and NetWorx being a nice program cleans up after itself, but as far as I understand you installed it over, so this doesn't apply. Sorry I am afraid the data is gone and at this point it'

What's the complete text in that column? I think it's possible when the value almost fits a column. Shrinking the column may help.
