Re: NetStat data transfer difference

10 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

Sorry I couldn't reproduce this. I have installed NetWorx and qTorrent on a Windows 10 machine and all reported numbers were alike. Here is a video I recorded. Unfortunately I am unable to delve in it when this bug doesn't occur, so I guess we'll have to wait to see if anyone else reports it.

Re: Error at startup: The database location is not writable or does not exist

10 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

Indeed NetWorx upgrades the DB structure when necessary and converts old data to a newer format. Thing is, there may be a corner case where not all data is converted correctly despite of me double-checking the conversion code. If this happens, I'd love to see an old database that is not correctly converted to a newer format.

What are the MAC address resolution settings in the config file that you feed in? Also what version of the software are you using?

Re: NetStat data transfer difference

Hmm... do you have IPv6 working? We didn't have a chance to test it properly as our ISP doesn't support IPv6, but there's a possibility that Netstat misses out on some IPv6 connections.

Re: List more parameters, e.g. port names assigned to a switch

Yes, but I am not quite sure what are you asking for: Extracting additional columns from ifTable? or Assigning your own comments/names to a port? Could you please clarify?

Re: Spyware reports in NetWorx - false alarm?

A component of NetWorx may be flagged as NetFilter. This is a third-party network driver used to filter out local traffic, which unfortunately has also been misused in malware by others, thus resulting in it being flagged by your antivirus. You can choose not to install it if you don't need to filter out LAN traffic. In any case, NetWorx is safe. It is simply a situation when the same driver

Re: NetStat data transfer difference

I have run some tests and found that this happened because you had Only Established Connections ticked. This option displays established TCP connections only, while a Torrent program usually transfers data over UDP. Simply untick this option and you should be able to see full speed in Netstat.

Re: Generic router name is shown in UPnP

10 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

Hi Crysta, Thank you very much for the donation Regarding the generic router's name displayed, I have done a couple of fixes, so please try this build and let know if the correct name is back. As to the TDI driver, it's only needed if you use the Ignore local traffic within the LAN option. Otherwise you can deselect it during the install, just to save some disk space.

Re: "Ignore LAN traffic" setting became unchecked

Quotecdg All three start networx at boot-time from a shortcut in the startup folder. Are you using the portable version per any chance? The Ignore local traffic within the LAN option is not available in the portable version and is displayed as disabled in the UI.

This part of the app hasn't changed for a long time. Perhaps it was something else?

Re: Synchronisation query: per-user traffic attribution

10 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

It won't work because the issue is not the port number. Imagine multiple instances of NetWorx running and each one knows the user who runs the instance and much much traffic the computer received and sent. This means if two instance wrote their recordings into the DB, the reported amount would double, three instances - triple, etc. For this reason only once instance is allowed to write to the D

Re: NetStat data transfer difference

Looks like a bug to me. What are you using for monitoring: the Ignore local traffic within the LAN tickbox or a WinPCap adapter?

Re: Synchronisation query: per-user traffic attribution

10 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

You see, there are certain technical issues with attributing usage to a correct user (as outlined above) when more than one user is logged on. The only way around this is to keep one user logged at a time as otherwise NetWorx has no way of knowing whose traffic it is.

Re: mgmtapi.dll not found

10 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

No, we don't use any frameworks other than the standard DLLs. Thing is, one DLL may refer to another, so try downloading wsnmp32.dll or any additional DLLs it asks about and putting it in the same folder. It's a very uncommon situation, by the way. There are about 10 thousand copies of NetWorx downloaded per day and this is the first time in years someone reports this error.

Re: mgmtapi.dll not found

10 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

It's a standard system DLL present since Windows 2000. If your system doesn't have it, I suppose the system may be damaged or stripped down. You can try downloading it from a web-site though.

Re: Does NetWorx need .Net Framework?

It's probably unrelated. The NetWorx app doesn't use .NET and is 100% native code.

Re: Auto-increment problem in back-ups

10 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

Like I said it's something SQLite browser does by auto-incrementing the hour field. It may do so for convenience, but it's unaware of the constraints we put on the data. If you want to know what constraints are, you can start here. Bottom line: in order to maintain the database integrity those constraints will not let you enter an hour above 23 or add more than one unique combination of user-da

Re: Feature request: select, copy and paste IP addresses from the console screen

Well, assuming by 'system console' you mean the above screen shot, the newly added feature allows you to copy any IP address in Source or Destination. Could you perhaps draw a picture of what you want?

Re: Feature request: select, copy and paste IP addresses from the console screen

Is this what you wanted? It's been added in the latest build.

Re: Auto-increment problem in back-ups

I guess this is something SQLite browser does by auto-incrementing the hour field. It may do so for convenience, but it's unaware of the restrictions we put on the data. Like Praxis explained, the user-day-hour combination is a unique key and on top of that there are constraints to maintain the DB integrity. One of these constraints requires any hour to be between 0 and 23.

Re: Error at startup: The database location is not writable or does not exist

There should be one extra line in the message giving details on why the error occurs. Could you post here a screen shot of the error with version 5.5.1?

Re: Auto-increment problem in back-ups

10 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

I don't see the problem. The software stores its data in Day-Hour format. Day is the date is stored as the number of days since 30 Dec 1899. Hour is the hour on that day between 0 and 23. There's no 24th hour. For example: USER_NAME DAY HOUR Andrew 42404 0 Andrew 42404 1 ... Andrew 42404 22 Andrew 42404 23 Andrew 42405 0 Andrew

Re: How to monitor iPhone connection only

10 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

You don't need to ignore local traffic in this scenario. As far as I can tell you should choose something like Apple Mobile Device Ethernet. If it's not available, go to the hidden settings, change Physical adapters only to False and restart NetWorx.

Re: How to resize the graph

In that case yes, as of version 5.4.2 a usage backup contains everything, including the current settings.

Re: How to delete list items on the Applications tab

That's right. There also may be no need to reset all your PCs at the end of every month. NetWorx is perfectly capable of maintaining month by month usage summary and you can drill in if necessary.

Re: Feature request: select, copy and paste IP addresses from the console screen

The rules are a complex structure, possibly with many IP addresses and MAC addresses in it. How do you want to use this feature?

Re: Can no longer monitor router with 5.5

10 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum

Could this be a firewall preventing NetWorx from finding the router? Try turning it off. Version 5.4.2 used the built-in Windows implementation, while versions 5.5 and 5.5.1 use our own one, which may be detected and blocked by a firewall.

Re: Netscan forcing windows updates

10 years ago, by Andrew in Network Scanner Forum

Sorry, I am not sure which scan it is. The Lookup logged on users option calls a system API first NetWkstaUserEnum If this function fails, then it sends a specially crafted NetBios packet in the same way as the nbtstat -a command. Hope this helps.

Re: Netscan forcing windows updates

10 years ago, by Andrew in Network Scanner Forum

The app itself doesn't create any events in the Security Log. I guess it's a specific scan that Windows reacts upon and restarts, but can't tell specifically.
