Re: Reading Fritz!Box 7490 router UPnP
10 years ago, by Andrew in NetWorx Forum
I have checked what Fritz!Box Traffic does internally and found it issues a UPnP command called GetAddonInfos. It seems to be specific to Fritz!Box and when called it returns ByteReceiveRate and ByteSendRate. The Fritz!Box Traffic app simply displays these values, while their calculation is done by the router, which also explains the unrealistically looking graph with two straight lines. Since

You probably have the live display activated. Just choose View - Disable Live Display from the main menu and things should be back to normal.
Re: Feature Improvement Request: Run WiFi Guard as a Service

At the moment there is no plan to rewrite WiFi Guard as a service. Is that the portable version you are trying to run as a service?

Cool, could you please try the new build? It's got a custom UPnP implementation; if it doesn't work, we can debug and fix it.

Not at the moment. You have to go through Image - Mount Image in the main menu.
Re: Reading Fritz!Box 7490 router UPnP

Yes, unfortunately it suggests an issue with the data router reports. At the moment NetWorx uses the built-in Windows UPnP implementation which fails if a router is not strictly compliant to the UPnP standard. The most common issue is when the router's firmware uses signed integers to store DL/UL counters and then turn negative after 2 GB (2^31). This could be worked around if we wrote our

Yes, this option activates the driver which may, in turn, cause network issues with some apps. You can try a different driver (NetWorx comes with two), or use WinPCap as described here.

Most likely it's a bug in the router that reports negative values for UL/DL counters. Could you please try this portable build and post here what it prints in the console?
Re: Recommended Windows version for the latest Bandwidth Manager

It depends on how you actually use it. For example, if the computer is to be a bridge, it doesn't matter as the traffic data never reach the TCP/IP stack. It's forwarded by BWM in this case. Anyway even when using the ICS I wouldn't be concerned unless you have hundreds of users.
Re: Support for .img compression
10 years ago, by Andrew in RAM Disk & RAM File System Forum
That's a bit complicated because we are using differential writing where only the changed blocks are written back from a RAM Disk to its associated image. Regular compression can't be used this way as we'd be unable to only update specific parts of the image file when it's compressed.

Great, thanks! We'll include this into the next release.
Re: Unable to uninstall after forgetting the password

If NetWorx isn't showing under Add/Delete Programs in the Control Panel, it most likely was never installed and you use the portable version. In this case simply delete the application's folder. Please see these links: about forgotten password and what to do if NetWorx uninstaller reports it is running.
Re: Unable to complete system state backup once RamDrive installed

Try turning on HDD emulation in the RAM Disk's properties. Some apps don't support standalone volumes and require a full hard disk drive to be emulated.

Good question. Please post here a screen shot of both and we'll have a look.
Re: Suggestion: custom exclusion list based on MAC address filter

Thank you for your feedback. I think suggestion #1 is a great idea and we've just implemented it. Download the latest update and let me know how it works for you. Regarding features #2 and #3 perhaps we can implement it at a later stage. With the newly added partial matching feature you should stop getting false alerts for the same device anyway.

See the Applications tab under Usage Reports.

There's a possibility of a dead lock not caught in tests. If the lockup happens again and is reproducible, please go to the registry and set CriticalSectionTimeout to 60 (seconds) at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\CriticalSectionTimeout Then reboot the system and wait for the BWM lockup to happen again. Once it happens wait, for 1 minute, which will cause a

Interesting, I never met this issue before. Thank you for sharing the solution!

Well you can run Wireshark and see if there's any traffic to those MAC addresses or there isn't. I am afraid I can't see what's happening from here.
Re: Recommended Windows version for the latest Bandwidth Manager

We develop BM on Windows 8, though anything from Windows XP to Windows 10 or their server edition will do. Just try not to use it with a third-party firewall or antivirus software installed on the same server as the software may interfere with each other.
Re: Some rules stopped working. Traffic is limited without any rules

This means only the MAC addresses of 000AF36A7000 (unicast) and FFFFFFFFFFFF (broadcast) have been seen in the traffic. What's your configuration and what are you trying to achieve?
Re: Some rules stopped working. Traffic is limited without any rules

Probably the MAC address is not what you expect it to be. Make an Any/Any rule and then set the tracking mode to Destination MAC address. You should be able to see captured MACs in the main view as streams.

Unfortunately there wasn't much info in the DB to shed light on this issue. I went ahead and ran a test on Windows 2008 R2 x64 with the latest version, but everything worked as expected. The speed was up to 50 MB/s. I guess the culprit may be a combination of network drivers or a conflict with other software installed on your server. Since version 3.1.3 worked for you, I'd recommend to

Re: How to track down a sudden traffic overuse

Yes, the option activates the built-in network driver that filters out local communications, for example copying a file from computer A to computer B within the same network, whether it's WiFi or cable.
Re: How to track down a sudden traffic overuse

You can see the time of the day under Hourly Rates shown below. Unfortunately it can't tell you where it was downloaded from, but if you had the Ignore local traffic within the LAN option on, you can see what apps downloaded the data at the Applications tab.

I am not sure where to start, but let's have a look at your ruleset and log messages. Could you post here the .DB file from C:\ProgramData\SoftPerfect\Bandwidth Manager? Please compress it to a .ZIP file. By the way, what version of Windows are you running it on?
