Cisco VPN conflicts on WinXP?   24 May 2013, 05:33

Hello,

I recently discovered Networx and was happy with its functionality. Especially the ability to see bandwidth use by application.

However, as I continued to evaluate the program I noticed that my Cisco VPN Client (Version 5.0.07) was unable to connect. The error that I recieve from the VPN is 412, which means that it cannot contact the VPN Server. This problem has happened twice so far. Both times I uninstalled Networx and rebooted to resolve the problem.

Are there any conflicts with Networx and the Cisco VPN Client on WinXP? Any other suggestions on what to try would also be appreciated.

I'd also like to add that I am using Networx 5.2.8. Only the full version includes the usage by application feature.

Possibly there is a conflict between the driver NetWorx uses to filter out LAN traffic and the Cisco VPN client.

Unfortunately the driver is a third-party product and we cannot do anything about it.

Thats a bummer. Hopefully its a coincidence or a temporary problem relating to something else.

I have begun testing Networx on our Win7 laptops now. Have not seen the problem replicated on that device yet. The data by application feature is what I am really hoping to take advantage of. I can see that feature being incredibly helpful for folks on USB Modems or Mobile Hotspot devices with a metered data plan.

Unfortunetly my Win7 machine started to produce these syptoms this morning too : (. It was the same Cisco VPN client and version. It seems that the application plays with the VPN fine until you reboot the machine.

I should specify that the problem is not connecting to the VPN as I described above. The VPN connects succesfully and shows an authenticated connection. However, if I try to browse to anything on the internet the communication is blocked. I get timeouts from everything that I request; intranet sites, internet sites, pings, ftp, etc.

Thankfully my Win7 laptop also has the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility client, v3.1.01065. It does not seem that this problem affects my connections over that VPN right now.
