Detailed email notifications   21 January 2014, 11:25

Hi,

I have just started using NetWorx moving away from other software that does the same.

I have setup a notification when traffic 'received and sent more' than 1 GB within 1 hour.

what I would like to do now is send an email with details such as Incoming Traffic, Outgoing Traffic and Total Traffic for that hour.

is this possible?

Regards
Rodney

There's no built-in email function, but NetWorx can launch an external application, which could be a mail client like blat.

Yes, I have setup a run command to run a vbscript to email me but is there any way to provide the script with the Incoming Traffic, Outgoing Traffic and Total Traffic for that hour or for whatever trigger condition is setup?

I have just added this in the latest build.

Prior to launching an external application in the notifications, it sets the NOTIFY environment variable that you can access in your script.

It can be seen by specifying cmd.exe /k echo %NOTIFY% to be launched.

Re: Notification   21 January 2014, 20:31

ok, the environment variable works fine now to get the event to fire.

when I set the notification condition to:

received and sent more
1 MB
1 min
All traffic

the event fires: a lot but when set to:

received and sent more
1 GB
1 h
All traffic

the event does not fire even when I copy a 2.6 GB file.

any thoughts

Does it get recorded in the usage reports? Not excluded as local traffic?

Re: Notification   21 January 2014, 21:51

The Hours in 24-hr format is completely On-peak.

and here are the last two hourly rates:

21/Jan/2014, 21:00 - 21:59, 12.0 KB/s, 361 KB/s, 44.3 MB, 1.33 GB, 1.38 GB
21/Jan/2014, 20:00 - 20:59, 162 KB/s, 790 KB/s, 596 MB, 2.91 GB, 3.51 GB

No events fired.

Re: Notification   21 January 2014, 22:17

It might be an issue with the notifications when the Settings dialog is accessed, that is opened and closed, the notifications are reset.

For example, say you're downloading a 1 GB file and half way through you accessed the Settings, it will only accumulate 0.5 GB for the notifications, which then may not fire.

Try not to access the Settings while testing the notifications.

Re: Notification   21 January 2014, 22:37

ok, I reset all counters and than copied 2 GB across the network.

21/Jan/2014, 22:00 - 22:59, 8.60 KB/s, 604 KB/s, 31.7 MB, 2.22 GB, 2.26 GB

The At a Glance Tab reports
All traffic 2.26
On-peak 2.26

All others are 0.

I did not access the software while the copy was running.

I had a closer look and I think the culprit is the actual setting. As you mentioned

received and sent more
1 GB
1 h
All traffic

It does require more than 1 GB to be received and more than 1 GB to be sent. You may want to change that to or:

Re: Notification   22 January 2014, 07:48

Thanks Andrew, that make more sense.

I got two emails
1. Within the last 60 minutes there was received or sent more than 1.00 GB of data: received 14.2 MB sent 1.01 GB
2. Within the last 60 minutes there was received or sent more than 1.00 GB of data: received 19.3 MB sent 1.01 GB

I did copy 2 GB so I am guessing that the first GB triggered the first event and the second GB triggered the second event.

Is there a way so that the events only trigger once per the event time period?

Re: Notification   22 January 2014, 14:51

No, it the current implementation multiple events within the same period all trigger a notification.

Re: Notification   22 January 2014, 15:36

Is there a way to trigger the event on the total of received and sent so that received 500 MB and sent 500 MB will trigger the 1 GB event?

Re: Detailed email notifications   22 January 2014, 16:16

No, you can only have 500 MB received and/or 500 MB sent.

Thanks Andrew

I will continue to evaluate this software.
