Monitoring desktop Ethernet card and wireless tablet at the same time

Started by KevinBorg

Hi,
Thanks for Networx, it,s great!

I'm using Networx 5.3.1. I currently have selected my Network Adapter Card which is nVidia nForce 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet which is where I plug in my Ethernet cable into, to monitor my desktop computer internet usage data online and Networx has proven to be very accurate for the internet data I use through my desktop computer when I check my monthly phone and broadband bills.

My flat mate uses a 7 inch Wireless Google Nexus Tablet Version 1 i bought him for his birthday and he uses my same Modem as I have given him the wireless password so he can go online and watch videos, on wireless etc.

But now my end of month phone and broadband bills don't match.

My question:
How can i setup my Networx program to Monitor his Wireless Usage while I am still monitoring my wired usage through my network adapter card, the nVidia nForce Card in my desktop?
If I select monitor All Monitoring, I just get one big total and I can't tell how much he is using on his Wireless Nexus Tablet?

I am a bit of a novice when it comes to these types of different monitoring settings and any help would be greatly appreciated, Thank You.

Thanks, Kev Borg

With NetWorx you basically have got two options:

1. Install NetWorx on every computer on your network. This can only be done if all your computers are running Windows. While NetWorx can only monitor traffic on the computer where it is installed, instances of NetWorx can talk to each other so that each instance is synchronised and shows the actual overall usage.

2. If your modem/router supports so called SNMP protocol, you can monitor all traffic via your modem/router. This however will not give you a per-user usage statistics breakdown and the monitoring computer must be continuously on to poll the modem/router and collect usage data. Check your modem/router's documentation with regards to the SNMP support.

Apparently in your case you can't install NetWorx on that tablet, which do not support regular Windows applications. So if your modem exposes SNMP or UPnP, perhaps NetWorx can monitor it and give you total usage. Otherwise, I am afraid there is no solution.
