mount image file works but add disk does not

5 years ago, by kencl in RAM Disk Forum

Why would the amount or RAM matter? The image mounts just fine. Why should automatic mounting be any different? Anyway, this system has 2Gb or RAM. 256 MB will not mount when "Added", neighter will 128. Sometimes 60Gb works, sometimes it doesn't.

Correct. I'm having to mount and unmount manually when I boot / shutdown (though I could probably not bother unmounting and it will still persist correct?). Really I'm practicing for my move to Win 7 64 bit with 32 Gb of RAM (before Christmas or perhaps wait for the boxing week sales). I appreciate your help a lot Andrew!

Hi Folks, Having a problem getting a persistent image, created by SoftPerfect's RAM Disk software, to load automatically. The image, which is 512 Mb, can be mounted (Image > Mount Image...) and dismounted (Image > Unmount Image...) without problem. Oh, ok, great. Won't writing a 20 Gb file, even to SSD (I'm leaning towards the Samsung 830), take a while? Long enough, in fact, for Windows to get impatient and ask me if I want to kill the program before the write is complete?

Hi Folks, I had my eyes opened WIDE to the potential of RAM Disks by the video at Just in time too, as I'm currently deciding on components for my next build. Seeing how awesome RAMDisks can be, I'm going to double my RAM to 32Gb and use Win7 pro rather than home premium - arg . So, here's my strategy. I'd appreciate your comments on it: 1) Use one 1Gb, volatile RAMDisk, mounted on boo

Cannot unmount or delete disk mounted on boot

Hi Folks, I'm having a problem on my Win XP, 32 bit, 2 Gb RAM system (drive letter R: in the screen capture). I cannot unmount (dismount) or delete a disk which was previously mounted on boot. Even the "force dismount" fails. How do I get rid of this Ram Disk? PS the disk is EMPTY. There is nothing in it, although it was used as the windows temp dir a couple of times before I
