Andrew, do you think this is going to be a hard issue to resolve?

The closest method I have been able to find is using grub4dos: http://tech.outcult.com/tutorials/winram/01/

I have done a few tests with a 20GB ram disk, seems not to show up in the boot list. Would it be possible to load it at this point? Other hard drive drivers, etc are loaded, but not network. https://4sysops.com/archives/native-vhd-boot-in-windows-8/

Using Native Boot VHDX to load from a RAM disk

9 years ago, by stenrulz in RAM Disk Forum

Hello, At what point in the kernel start up is the ram disk loaded? I am thinking about using the Windows 8 Native Boot VHDX to load from a ram disk. Thus booting the main operating system from the ram disk itself of course with some overhead.

OK, great. Please let me know if you need any any testing done with any dev build.

Andrew, Please let me know if you need any more information. 40GB is quite a low limit for the issue to occur, hopefully this should allow for quick diagnostics.

Please see the below test outcomes. Hopefully this should be small enough ram disk size for quick tests. 1) 30GB - worked 40GB - failed 30GB on disk - failed 2) 40GB - failed 30GB on disk - worked 3) 40GB - failed 4) 35GB - worked

No disk image attached to the 64GB or 32GB test.

I have done some more testing to hopefully help workout here the issue is. - Issue still occurs if not loading or saving to disk - 64000MB ram drive issue occurs - 32000MB ram drive works on boot

100GB RAM disk failing at boot

9 years ago, by stenrulz in RAM Disk Forum

Hello, I have created a 100 GB image on my SSD that is selected to load at start-up. For some reason it does not load automatically, works fine manually. This process takes up to 6 minutes, could i be hitting one of your static timeouts? Could you please investigate? I would like to use this ram drive for all user profiles, programs, etc.

Re: Hard Disk Emulation is not working

Hello Andrew, Have you had time to look into why Hard Disk Emulation is not working completely with PrimoCache? What method does your emulation use SCSI? Thank you.

Re: Hard Disk Emulation is not working

PrimoCache does support ram as a L1 cache but does not keep the data after a reboot, as they want quick start-up times. I do not care if it takes 5mins to start up only that it is fast after it is fully loaded. I tested a few other ram disks and they worked fine even Primo Ramdisk (VSuite Ramdisk II), using SCSI RAM disk.

Use level 2 ram disk only as this allows keeping history of most used bits and quick loads times even after a reboot. Do not care about the system load time just the performance once login.

Hard Disk Emulation and PrimoCache

Hello, The mount option for Hard Disk Emulation is not working with primo-cache. It sees the drive, formats it, but is unable to write any data to the drive. Checked a few different ram disk solutions besides soft perfect and they worked fine. What hard disk emulation is applied? SCSI, etc. (I have not included the names of the other solutions as i am not 100% sure what the forum rules are
