Re: RAMDisk not working on Windows 11 23H2 - Solved

7 months ago, by WildByDesign in RAM Disk Forum

You're welcome. I assume that this was very likely a rare glitch with Defender. I will add a bit more details below in case it ever shows up again: - just finished clean install of 23H2 - installed all drivers - rebooted several times as per typical clean install of Windows - installed RAMDisk first (no other 3rd party programs installed yet) - added a previously working RAMDisk image -

RAMDisk not working on Windows 11 23H2 - Solved

SOLVED: I was able to solve this issue by completely disabling Windows Defender.

RAMDisk not working on Windows 11 23H2

7 months ago, by WildByDesign in RAM Disk Forum

On 23H2 release of Windows 11, RAMDisk is not working: no RAM disks will save (error states that it cannot save due to another process accessing it). trying to unmount the RAM disk causes entire system to freeze (no task manager, no Win+X, nothing). It requires holding the power button down for 10+ seconds. accessing the actual RAM disk in Explorer causes BSOD. So far I have tried creating ne

For what it's worth, I also have Visual Studio 2022 installed on my machine. But I was not using it or have it open at the time that I experienced the error. And I only experienced the error 1 time over the course of 20 days or so.

I have attached a screenshot of my settings. The interesting thing is, I have used the November 12th build since November 12th since I was following this thread. And I used the initial 4.3 release since it first came out as well. This is the first time that I have experienced this issue. I can definitely understand how this might be difficult to reproduce.

Also, I do not have the option "Save contents to associated image every" set. I do have it set to Save Contents to Image, but not automatically per X amount of minutes.

I am also getting this error now. I am using the updated build from Nov. 12th. The only thing that occurred around the same time in Event Log was an Explorer.exe crash, so it might be related. I can't find any SoftPerfect RamDisk entries in event log. I just got the tiny popup window that says "The parameter is incorrect."

Re: Boot-time disk update fix in v4.3

Thank you for the quick and thorough response. I went ahead and placed my upgrade order right now. But I do have a question though. Do I need to recreate my boot-disk image at all to take advantage of this fix? Or is simply installing the update (4.3) enough to fix the issue? Also, thank you for the Windows 11 details as well. Especially, I am thankful that your dev team has always provided

Boot-time disk update fix in v4.3

2 years ago, by WildByDesign in RAM Disk Forum

Hi, I just have a couple of questions regarding the boot-time disk fixes from the recent 4.3 release. QuoteFixed: Boot-time disks did full image update instead of differential. Could this issue have caused longer shut downs? Was it a full image update anytime a boot-time disk was saved? I am due to purchase a new licence and I'm trying to determine if I should do it now or wait a bit

New release contains an older version of drivers

The most recent release of version 4.2 contains older version of RAMDisk drivers from version 4.1.1. Is this intended or accidental? I just wanted to point this out, just in case. Either way, it is working great so far. Cheers!

Thank you for the clarification regarding the different naming of the program for the Japanese market, Andrew. That eases my curiosity in that regard. Also, I agree on the "feature complete" statement for RAM Disk. I personally could not think of any additional features required at this time and the stability, performance and efficiency are fantastic. Thank you for the additional d

Sorry for being off-topic with this, but one of your earlier screenshots had the "SoftPerfect Rapid Ram Disk" header. Is this from an upcoming RAM Disk release? If yes, do you have an estimated time frame for release? I am always excited to see this particular software product develop and move forward. I believe that your team is still the only RAM Disk software dev team which has th

Re: Office 2010 C2R crash: possible conflict with exFAT disk mounted at boot

Thank you so much again for responding and for all of the details. I decided to run CrystalDiskMark as suggested. You are right, indeed, exFAT proved faster in comparison to NTFS in all categories. Even running the test with a smaller test size, exFAT came out on top. Very good. Further tests have continued to show exFAT being more efficient and faster so I am definitely thankful now that I ma

Re: Office 2010 C2R crash: possible conflict with exFAT disk mounted at boot

@Andrew, Thank you for your time and for your suggestions. I had a feeling that this deep rooted bug was more to do with Office 2010 (underlying App-V) not properly supporting exFAT and therefore having some sort of low level kernel driver conflict. I mainly use my RAMDisk for browser profile and cache and Thunderbird profile as well. So in my case, continuing to use "disk mounted on l

Re: Office 2010 C2R crash: possible conflict with exFAT disk mounted at boot

Thank you for your reply, Andrew. I created another RAM disk for the purpose of this testing right now. I did another exFAT disk with the Hard Disk Emulation checked as you suggested, followed by a reboot to test against Office 2010 C2R. Unfortunately, even with Hard Disk Emulation, Office 2010 C2R still failed to launch any Office apps due to underlying App-V failure to initialize.

Office 2010 C2R crash: possible conflict with exFAT disk mounted at boot

Problem occurred since: RAMDisk 4.0.4 - exFAT support added Conflicting program: Office 2010 (all Click-to-Run versions) Specifically: Microsoft Application Virtualization Client (4.6.x) When an exFAT disk is loaded through RAMDisk, any Office 2010 (C2R) program fails to load and crashes early. More specifically, it does not even begin to launch because the failing point of conflict is the un
