Hi Andrew, I have just installed the new version of the BWM on my server,. It instantly accepted the Imported rules from version 2.8. This version allows complete transparancy of speed from In Nic to Out Nic. Can't wait to test out some o it's functions. Great prograsmming job..... Steve

Can one user slow down entire network?

7 years ago, by nowcom in Bandwidth Manager Forum

Hello, I had an interesting situation this past weekend on my network. One of my clients had her son visit her for the weekend. He decided to download a new Linux operating system which was about 5.5 Gb of data. While that download was taking place, the rest of the network was brought to a complete stand still. There are over 230 users on the network. This user was tracked down and isolated

alphabetical 'Rule Name'

8 years ago, by nowcom in Bandwidth Manager Forum

Hello, I have been running BWM version 2.8 (build 435) for a few years now. Is there magic making the Rule Name column alphabetical???? Sure we can all simply click on the column header..... but I would like it saved and as the default. Any thoughts? Thanks steve

Announce: v2.8 beta

Hi Andrew, Great work on the upgrade to 2.8. I see in the 'Help' menu that 'Enter Key' is present. Will I be required to enter another key code in 30 days, or will my existing license hold? Thanks Steve

Monthly quota and daily rules

10 years ago, by nowcom in Bandwidth Manager Forum

Hello, A situation has occurred where, in addition to monthly bandwidth rules, I would like to employ daily rules as well for just a few clients who are abusing the system. Right now all clients have their own individual rules which starts them at our full 7mbs and reduces them gradually to 256 kbs if they use more than 10 Gb in one month. I call it 'T1 Monthly'. I would like to also cre

Adding a Mail Server to BWM

10 years ago, by nowcom in Bandwidth Manager Forum

Hello, I am planning to add an e-mail service (smtp only) to our BWM server. Has anyone tried this and if so, did the BWM port forwarding on port 25 work well or just slow things down to a crawl? Our present e-mail SP is having issues and I would like to be completely independant. Thanks steve

Evaluating BMW need setup help

10 years ago, by nowcom in Bandwidth Manager Forum

Hi, We were having the very same problem. I am also a wireless ISP, here in the mountains of BC. We use the BWM to totally control the speed and bandwidth limiting for all of our users, except me, of course.... The P2P restricting works very well on my system. I have it lowered to 10k, not completely blocked. This way I can see which client is actually trying to abuse my system. We

Bandwidth Usage Daily Reports

10 years ago, by nowcom in Bandwidth Manager Forum

Hello, We have recently written a PHP script which allows our clients to display their bandwidth usage via HTML. However, they can only see the totals for the present month (21st - 21st). The script also allows them to see color coded boxes (green-<75%, yellow>75%, red>100%). Now we are working on e-mailing the clients when their usage is over 75% as a warning. We reset the val

P2P Blocking - Is It?

10 years ago, by nowcom in Bandwidth Manager Forum

Thanks Andrew for the reply. I'm curious if there's a way to allow your customers (me) to enter a small string into a field that the software could read. This text would be compared to the packet header, blocking any website that contains that text. For example, I would like to be able to enter 'kazaa' or 'bit' and have the program block any access to websites that have those words as pa

P2P Blocking

10 years ago, by nowcom in Bandwidth Manager Forum

Hello, Each and every rule is working perfectly and we are actually making a few extra dollars selling additional Gb's to our clients. We have separate plans for 2, 3, 4, and 5 Gb monthly usage. Our system has a 4.5 Mb bandwidth with 150 wireless clients. They, the parents of teenagers, are finally realizing that the darling children are sucking their bandwidth dry with P2P sharing. Now we

Where is the Usage DB file?

10 years ago, by nowcom in Bandwidth Manager Forum

Hi Andrew, This was a great purchase. We now have a website built where the users can check their usage at any time. It's even colour coded green=good, yellow=warning 75%, red=bad overusage. I have not completely cit off the overusers, but rather have slowed them down to that of a bad dial-up line.... At least they can go check their usage and call to purchase more bandwidth for the m

Where is the Usage DB file?

10 years ago, by nowcom in Bandwidth Manager Forum

Thanks Andrew, Works perfectly. We are about to launch the new service where the client will log into a web page, the server side PHP file will grab the contents from the bwmsvc.db file, filter and display it for the client. Works good in test mode. steve

Where is the Usage DB file?

10 years ago, by nowcom in Bandwidth Manager Forum

Hello, We are trying to extract the up, down and total usage per client for web reporting purposes. However, after looking at all of the files in the program directory, all we can find are columns with headers, but no actual results. Are they kept somewhere else? Thanks stevfe

Critical Problems with BWM on peak hours

10 years ago, by nowcom in Bandwidth Manager Forum

Hi Antonio, I have tried your system of limiting each and every individual client to 500kbs on my network here in BC. And agree that during peak times, latency became a problem as proven by lots of calls. So as a test, I changed each client's rule to allow for the total bandwidth as set out by a global rule at the top of the list. One for web browsing at 3.81mbs and one for uploading at

Reboot the BWM server to auto-load the program

10 years ago, by nowcom in Bandwidth Manager Forum

Hi Andrew, Thank you for that info. Well, all has been reset as of 5am this morning. The rules are working very well and I can't wait for the results to start adding up. There's one point that has become a little confusing but this is an internal DHCP problem, and not yours. There are a large number of clients who have CPE radios that are set as routers. These radios are easily ruled

Reboot the BWM server to auto-load the program

I suppose the easiest way is to reboot all equipment remotely via Tight-VNC or whatever. Then use the same to access the server, then just log-in. Think I just answered my own question steve

Rebooting the BWM server to auto-load the program

10 years ago, by nowcom in Bandwidth Manager Forum

Hello, We have a Black Box remote control switch which allows all critical network equipment to be power cycled for 10 seconds. This can be done via any internet connection or by using it's built-in auto-ping function. When it can't ping, say the main router, it reboots all equipment. (routers, switches, DSL modem, etc) I would like to include the BWM server into this reboot string so it
