IP Management System   19 September 2013, 03:20

Hi, I'm looking for an advise. How can we use Netscan to implement like an IP Management System??
To keep record of all ips on the network with its description. To know which ips remain available to be assigned. Maybe linking the data to an sqlite file or something like that?

If the IP addresses are static and you have a rather small range, then yes.

Turn on showing dead hosts, turn on friendly names and run a complete scan.

Then assign a comment/description to every alive IP addresses. The dead ones would be unused and you can assign them to new devices.

After that you may want to rescan the whole network to track changes.

Where from? A text file?

Only IP addresses. See File - Import IP/Host Name List in the main menu.

Some of my ip ranges are are static so as you advise me i turn on showing dead hosts, and friendly names.

I can assign a friendly name to each ip one by one but would be better If possible to import a list with IP+friendly names.

You mention something about .... "assign comments/descriptions to every alive IP addresses"

HOW????

First, you have to turn on the IP-to-Friendly Name mapping

Once this is done, you can click any IP address dead or alive and assign a friendly name to it as shown below
