Ignore a host name wildcard during scanning   23 January 2015, 00:22

I am working with this program and we have several machines that are on our network that are supervised by a different IT team, and we would like to exclude these machines from the search. Is there any functionality to exclude these machines outside of IP range filtering. Our network is DHCP so the IP's of those machines can and will change, so I'm really hoping it is possible to exclude a hostname range with a wildcard.

Not really. In order to find out a machine's host name, it needs to be scanned, which makes it impossible to exclude it prior to scanning.

If the main issue is in these machines cluttering the view, you can hide them based on their host name (View - Setup Filter).

@candle86

Here are several things you can do:
  1. If you are using Windows DHCP the machines will always get the same IP unless they are re-imaged, network reconfigured, moved to a different port on a switch or the NIC is changed.
  2. You can create a VLAN put them on there own network now you will not see them.
  3. You can assign them a permanent IP address in DHCP and skip them.
  4. You can assign them static IP addresses and skip them.
  5. You can turn off ICMP on them and they will not reply to ping.
  6. You can setup a separate segment, and DHCP and you will not see them, by skipping their IP range.

Hope that helps. -WS
