Win7: Ramdisk unmount, deleting and chaning Settings cause system crash

Started by Stef

Hi all, I have some trouble with unmounting, deleting a ram disk

Version: 3.4.2 64bit (German)
OS: Win7 Ultimate 64bit
Ramdisks: Empty and not in use
Problem: Can't change anything on ramdisk without system crash

I have 2 Ramdisks. If I like to change anything, delete or unmount something on the ramdisks
1. comes the error "Can't unmount Ramdisk, files are in use"
2. If I force the unmount/delete, my system restarts immediately (windows crash).
3. If I uncheck "startup with windows", it starts with windows and loads the ramdisks. So nothing changes.

Does anybody know how to fix this problem? I like to delete ramdisk1 and change the settings for ramdisk2 without a system crash.

Thank you in advanced for your help!

Unfortunately there isn't much we can do without a memory dump.

If possible, could you please do the following?

  1. Enable the kernel memory dump (Minidump is not sufficient)
  2. Restart the system. Then once a crash occurs, please send me MEMORY.DMP in the Windows folder (compress it and upload to a file sharing service or attach to a email)
Hi Andrew, thank you for the fast reply. Your point with the memory dump was a great idea. I analysed my system and found the problem:

Symantec Endpoint Protection (v. 12.1.671.4971)

It was the "Proactive Thread Protection" which caused the crash (I'll do more analysis for the exact reason/cause when I have time for it).

Because all my test machines had the same configuration, I pointet first on the software....I'm really sorry for that!
Thank you very much for your help!
