Creating the initial directory structure in the RAM Ddsk

Started by paulgj

Hello,

I am using an image file to specify the directory structure of the created ram disk and I see that I have to create the image file the same size as the RAMDisk space. So in my case I have to create a 1GB sized image file to be able to specify the startup folders of the 1GB ram disk. I will never save the ram disk back to the image so was wondering if there is another method to create the initial directory structure in the ramdisk without having to have such a large image file? (I know 1GB is not that big, but every little bit helps.)

Thanks in advance,
Paul

Absolutely, see the Create Folders section in the RAM Disk's properties. Nested folders are not allowed on boot-time disks though (they work okay on logon-time disks).

Thank you Andrew, so if I want nested folders I have to use an image file correct?

My concern with logon RAM disks is that the Windows temp files if redirected there would have an invalid location to write to if needed before the log on process.

Well if you override user TEMP/TMP and not the system ones, then a logon-time disk should work just fine. Windows uses a system TMP/TEMP location for its own needs.
