Custom disk image persistence

Custom disk image persistence   16 January 2017, 17:11

Hi

There is a setting that allows to store disk back to the image on x min, however I am interested to perform that action on custom scenarios like when idle for x min. Is this possible somehow? Perhaps I could use command line?

Yes, there's the /save command line parameter as described in the user manual.

Note though, the RAM Disk becomes write-protected for the time data is being saved and OS will deny any writing during the process. Also it's a good idea to backup the image file regularly in case it gets corrupted.

does the build-in setting handles this case?

No, any RAM Disk associated with an image becomes read-only for the duration of saving to keep the file system consistent.

so i am still not clear if I use the command line do I need to perform additional actions?

No. As soon as you pass the /save switch, the RAM Disk's contents will be saved to its associated image.

if I set to auto save every 10 min and restart before save occurs will I lost my data?

It's saved both every 10 mins and upon shutdown or restart. If the system crashes between saves, obviously data will be lost. If the system crashes during saving, the image file will likely be corrupted.
