Edge browser is not listed in Cache Relocator after moving its cache to RAM disk   20 October 2024, 18:36

Hi everyone, I'm an old RAM Disk user from Italy. After many years I switched to a new machine.
For now, I have only Edge installed as a browser (Windows 11 24H2). I also installed Steam.

I installed RAM Disk (R: disk with TMP and TEMP created at boot). The first time I ran CacheRelocator it offered me to change the location of the temporary cache for Edge and for Steam. I made the change but it told me I had to close Edge first.

Edge was closed, but from the Process Manager I saw that there were several instances still running in the background, so I terminated the processes. After doing this, CacheRelocator allowed me to change the two directories (both Edge and Steam).

The problem arose after restarting the machine. Now when I launch CacheRelocator, the Edge browser is no longer listed. Steam only.
I tried to force a fresh install of Edge, I rebooted, but CacheRelocator no longer shows me Edge. So now, even if I wanted to, I can no longer change the location of the Edge cache sad

One last question. Is there a way to create directories other than TEMP and TMP on my RAM disk at boot?

Thank you all for any answers.
Have a nice day!

Cache Relocator looks for %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\XXX\Cache, where XXX is a profile name. You can check if you have any profile folders there or try deleting the entire %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Edge\User Data folder, which will prompt Edge to create a new one. This might help Cache Relocator recognise Edge again.

Regarding creating additional directories on your RAM disk at boot, simply list them as shown in this article: How to improve your computer performance and SSD life span with a RAM disk.

Let us know if this helps!
Thank you!

It worked flawlessly.
I removed the entire "User Data" directory after terminating the Edge "process tree" using the process management program (System Informer).

After rebooting, when CacheRelocator initiated, Edge reappeared.

Subsequently, I created a directory for Edge and Steam cache on the RAM disk.

I apologize for the seemingly trivial question regarding the creation of directories upon RAM Disk boot, but I had overlooked that setting during the reconfiguration of your program.

Thank you once again for the assistance!
