0 bytes size of ramdisk.xml file and "access is denied" error

Started by Marian

Dear Support,

My ramdisk.xml file remains blank 0b size during Windows shutdown. It happened multiple times on different computers (Win10, Win11) with RAM Disk versions 4.4.2 and 4.4.1. The Modified timestamp in the properties of the ramdisk.xml config and ramdisk.tmp file is the same as of this system event:
Log Name: System
Source: Microsoft-Windows-IsolatedUserMode
Secure Trustlet Id 0 and Pid 0 stopped with status STATUS_SUCCESS.

I can reproduce the issue by changing the RAMDisk size while the RAMDisk is mounted, getting the "System error, (OS Code 5): Access is denied".
Do you think that the Trellix (McAfee) antivirus could be causing this issue, even though I don't find any file locks with ProcMon?

Normally, such file operation should not result in an "access denied" error, as both files have write permissions and the folder is writable.

Most likely the security software such as Trellix is interfering with writing to the file. There should be a feature in Trellix to add the entire folder to exclusions to prevent it from real-time scanning, which should resolve these file access errors.
You were right. It was the Trellix On-Access scan.
Excluding the .xml file did the job.
