Cache relocation for Vivaldi browser   06 March 2025, 10:26

The first time I ran the Cache Relocator program, it included Vivaldi browser in the list to relocate the cache to the RAM disk, which I did.
I created "Vivaldi" folder on my RAM drive (R:), and set Vivaldi browser cache to point to R:\Vivaldi. Maybe it was a mistake? Because the next time the "Vivaldi" directory wasn't there. It disappeared from RAM drive after reboot. And the Vivaldi browser disappeared from relocation list in Cache Relocator.

If I set Vivaldi to have its cache directly on the RAM drive R: (not it is own Vivaldi folder), it works and successfully creates a new "Cache\Cache_Data" folder on the R: drive. Is it ok leave it like that, in the drive root? Or will it be better to have separate folders on the RAM drive for each browser and other apps?
If having separate subfolders is preferred, how can I create them on the RAM disk so that they don't disappear after reboot?

The disappearance of a browser from Cache Relocator means that either the cache folder or its symbolic link could not be found. In your case, it was caused by the fact that the Vivaldi folder that you manually created on the RAM disk was wiped out during the reboot. The contents of RAM disks is volatile (as RAM is supposed to be). Therefore any manually created folders get deleted by a reboot or shutdown.

To make sure that the necessary folders are always present on the RAM disk, ready for your browser cache and other temporary data, they must be created automatically when the RAM disk is initialised, for example by the RAM Disk application itself. Not manually! So you should configure your RAM disk settings to automatically create those folders.

In your case, you need to make sure that the Vivaldi folder is created on your RAM disk R:\. For that, open the Add/Edit Disk window, and type the Vivaldi folder name in the Create Folders area, as shown in the second screenshot of this guide.

Regarding having application files directly in the RAM disk root: some applications may not function correctly when working directly with the root of a drive (e.g., R:), especially if the same location is also used by other applications that may create folders or files with identical names. Specifying a separate folder for each application, like R:\Vivaldi, is better.
